Article Abstract

Purpose: The attainment of fundamental research skills to create and disseminate new knowledge is imperative for the advancement of pharmacy practice. Research training is an important component of postgraduate residency training; however, the traditional model of performing residency research has several limitations that have hindered the ability of residents to complete high-quality research projects. Therefore, our institution developed and implemented the flipped residency research model with the 2013-2014 pharmacy practice residency class.

Summary: The flipped residency research model modifies the research timeline to better align research activities with residents' abilities at specific time points during the year. In the 4 years following implementation of the flipped residency research model, our institution found improvements in a number of areas pertaining to the research process compared with an evaluation of the 7 years prior to implementation. A decrease in the number of reviews required from institutional review boards was observed, resulting in improved institutional review board efficiency. The flipped residency research model also addressed limitations surrounding manuscript development and submission, as demonstrated by an improved publication rate. Additionally, residents who participated in the flipped residency research model self-reported increased comfort with research-related abilities associated with study design, implementation, manuscript development and submission, and biostatistics.

Conclusion: The modified research timeline of the flipped residency research model better aligns research activities with resident experiences and abilities. This realignment has translated to demonstrable impact in the success of residency projects and dissemination of results. Research is needed to investigate the impact of the flipped residency research model on longer term scholarly success.

The value of One-Minute Preceptor combined with Flipped Classroom teaching model in clinical teaching of general practice.

BMC Med Educ

August 2025

Department of General Medicine, Lanxi People's Hospital, 1359 Xishan Road, Lanxi City, Jinhua City, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, 321100, China.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining the One-Minute Preceptor (OMP) and Flipped Classroom (FC) methods in clinical teaching for general medicine residents during their standardized training.

Methods: A total of 80 general medicine residents undergoing standardized training at our hospital between June 2023 and December 2024 were selected as study participants. These residents were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n = 40) receiving the OMP/FC teaching method or a control group (n = 40) following traditional teaching methods.

Aim: To evaluate the perceived usefulness of a flipped-classroom model that integrated podcasts generated using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool in undergraduate dental education.

Materials And Methods: This within-subject, quasi-experimental study was conducted at a Swiss dental school. A cohort of 49 clinical-year dental students participated in eight conventional seminars and two flippedclassroom seminars, each covering a distinct clinical topic.

Background: The random flipped classroom is developed from the standard flipped course. In the random flipped classroom, students engage with class content outside of class, and one student is selected to lead the class activity during class time. This study aimed to train ultrasound residents with the random flipped classroom combined with simulation skills training, which overcame the limitations of the standard flipped classroom, achieving a better clinical performance of ultrasound residents.

The benefits of empowering leadership have been documented, but few studies have examined its impacts on nursing staff job well-being and resident outcomes in long-term care (LTC) settings. In this study, we evaluated the effects of an empowering leadership training program, delivered via a flipped learning approach for LTC leaders, on nursing staff and resident well-being. A quasiexperimental pre-post design with a control group was used.

Problem-Based Learning and Case-Based Learning in Clinical Practical Teaching for Gynecology Residents: A Narrative Review.

Adv Med Educ Pract

July 2025

Department of Gynecology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, People's Republic of China.

Background: Gynecology residency training necessitates a robust educational framework to cultivate clinical competency, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Traditional lecture-based teaching methods are deficient in fostering active learning and clinical decision-making. Problem-based learning (PBL) and case-based learning (CBL) have emerged as learner-centered approaches that enhance medical education by integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical practice.
