Article Abstract

In this contribution we report on light-induced metal-free coupling of propynylbenzene molecular units on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. The reaction occurs within the self-assembled monolayer and leads to the generation of covalently coupled 1,5-hexadiyne and para-terphenyl derivatives under topological control. Such photochemical uncatalysed pathway represents an original approach in the field of topological C-C coupling at the solid/liquid interface and provides new insight into the low temperature formation of aromatic compounds at the surface of carbonaceous supports.

Helical structures are ubiquitous in nature and exhibit fascinating properties. They are inherently chiral, and many rely on hydrogen bonds to stabilize their conformation. Homopolypeptides of the glutamate type form α-helical secondary structures and are considered rigid-rod polymers.

Background: Zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) ions are ubiquitous in industrial and daily life. Despite their critical impact on food safety and human health, current probes face significant limitations in simultaneously detecting both ions in complex food matrices.

Results: Herein, we successfully developed a pyrene-based FRET ratiometric fluorescent probe QP for the highly selective detection of Zn and Cd.

Evaluation of two IgG-scFv bispecific antibodies for neutralizing Omicron variants of SARS-CoV-2.

Laboratorio de Inmunología, Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo, A.C. Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Electronic address:

Bispecific antibodies (bsAbs) offer an alternative to monoclonal antibody (mAb) cocktails for addressing the loss of efficacy due to the rapid emergence of SARS-CoV-2 mutants. The structure and specificity of the parental antibodies influence the development of a highly neutralizing bsAb. To design an effective bsAb, the recognition of 44 single-chain fragment variable (scFv) antibodies against variants of SARS-CoV-2 was evaluated, along with an assessment of their ability to competitively bind to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) compared to the most potent neutralizing mAbs.

Enhanced mixing and mass transfer of non-Newtonian fluids for DHA production via Schizochytrium sp. fermentation.

September 2025

College of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing 211816, China. Electronic address:

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production via aerobic fermentation of Schizochytrium sp. is a green strategy, and the fermentation broth is a highly viscous, non-Newtonian fluid. In this study, the mixing and mass transfer of non-Newtonian fluids were enhanced using computational fluid dynamics combined with particle image velocimetry.

Citizen science enables volunteers from the public to contribute to scientific research. While citizen science may be an avenue for "democratizing" science and facilitating learning among volunteers, projects tend to attract homogeneous volunteers already highly engaged in science. The emergence of facilitator organizations such as schools, churches and corporations, that connect existing volunteer-oriented groups with citizen science, offers a potentially viable avenue through which to attract more diverse volunteers, with more to gain from their experience.
