Article Abstract

This Letter presents a search for the production of a long-lived neutral particle (Z_{d}) decaying within the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter, in association with a standard model (SM) Z boson produced via an intermediate scalar boson, where Z→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} (ℓ=e, μ). The data used were collected by the ATLAS detector during 2015 and 2016 pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1±0.8  fb^{-1}. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Limits on the production cross section of the scalar boson times its decay branching fraction into the long-lived neutral particle are derived as a function of the mass of the intermediate scalar boson, the mass of the long-lived neutral particle, and its cτ from a few centimeters to one hundred meters. In the case that the intermediate scalar boson is the SM Higgs boson, its decay branching fraction to a long-lived neutral particle with a cτ approximately between 0.1 and 7 m is excluded with a 95% confidence level up to 10% for m_{Z_{d}} between 5 and 15 GeV.

Genomic tools have advanced our understanding of species and population structure, but distinguishing neutral from adaptive evolution remains challenging due to limited methods for measuring a broad spectrum of phenotypic traits. We used spectroscopic data from preserved leaves to test for adaptive divergence among populations of live oaks (Quercus section Virentes), a monophyletic group of seven species that diversified under sympatric, parapatric, and allopatric speciation. We used 427 individuals to test for isolation-by-distance (IBD) and isolation-by-environment (IBE), as well as the influences of selection and phylogenetic inertia on traits.

The performance of semiconductor optoelectronic devices depends on efficient photodoping of active materials, where optical excitation generates photocarriers. Despite more than two decades of research, efficient photodoping in graphene remains elusive due to the formation of neutral excitons with ultrashort lifetimes. Here, by interfacing graphene with a Janus WSSe monolayer, we achieve unipolar photodoping of graphene with long-lived carriers.

We present the first experimental observation of the metastable AlF- negative ion. Velocity map imaging of the photoelectrons revealed that an electron is bound by 2.53 eV for AlF- with respect to the first excited state of the AlF neutral, a value much higher than the binding energies measured hitherto for metastable negative ions.

Fullerene C-Encapsulated Tetrathiafulvalene-Co Porphyrin Covalent Organic Framework: Driving Multistep Charge Transfer to Boost CO Photoreduction.

Constructing an efficient charge transfer system can significantly enhance photocatalytic CO reduction, yet efficient construction strategies remain to be explored. In this work, fullerene C is encapsulated into the tetrathiafulvalene-Co porphyrin (TTF-CoTPP) COF to fabricate an efficient photocatalyst C@COF. Transient absorption (TA) spectra indicate that C significantly promotes photogenerated charge separation (0.

High-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy of cryogenically cooled SiC.

We report high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy of SiC- anions using a cryogenic ion trap combined with the slow-electron velocity-map imaging method. Photodetachment transitions to the neutral SiC ground state X 3Π and excited states (a 1Σ+, b 1Π) were observed, revealing the fine structure of the X 3Π band. A long-lived excited state (A 3Π) of SiC- was observed at 3380(101) cm-1 above the anionic ground state.
