Investigating the neural correlates of ankles' joint rotation is critical to better understand the underlying deficit in balance or posture control in the clinical population. This work describes the design and characteristics of a low-cost MRI compatible isometric plantarflexion force measurement device. The device is fully adjustable to the particular height and shoe size of participants. Each individual force sensor has an operational linear range up to 80-100kg amounting to a force range up to 180kg when combining the two sensors, which is well above the maximal force for the majority of the population. Preliminary neuroimaging tests suggest that performing submaximal ankle plantar flexions on the device induce minimal motion artifacts on fMRI signal that are within an acceptable range.

Zero and ultralow-field nuclear magnetic resonance (ZULF NMR) is an NMR modality where experiments are performed in fields at which spin-spin interactions within molecules and materials are stronger than Zeeman interactions. This typically occurs at external fields of microtesla strength or below, considerably smaller than Earth's field. In ZULF NMR, the measurement of spin-spin couplings and spin relaxation rates provides a nondestructive means for identifying chemicals and chemical fragments, and for conducting sample or process analyses.

Aims: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) related cognitive impairment links to comorbid and modifiable olfactory dysfunction; however, the efficacy of olfactory training (OT) to mitigate cognitive decline specifically in these patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains unestablished. This study aimed to determine whether OT alleviates cognitive decline in this population.
Materials And Methods: In this 16-week, open-label trial, 60 T2D participants with MCI were randomly assigned (1:1) to OT or routine care (control).

Background: Cognitive training represents an important potential therapeutic strategy for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In our recently completed trial, crossword puzzles were superior to computerized cognitive training on Alzheimer's disease assessment scale-cognitive subscale-11 (ADAS-Cog11) and function, correlating with decreased brain atrophy over 78 weeks.
Methods: COGIT-2 is a 78-week, multicenter, clinical trial comparing home-based, high-dose crosswords (4 puzzles per week) to low-dose crosswords (1 puzzle per week) and a health education control group in 240 MCI subjects.
