A series of triazoles as miconazole analogues was designed, synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, MS and HRMS. All the newly prepared compounds were screened for their antifungal activities against five kinds of fungi. The bioactive assay showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited good or even stronger antifungal activities in comparison with the reference drugs miconazole and fluconazole. In particular, the 3,4-dichlorobenzyl derivative showed a comparable or superior activity against all the tested fungal strains to standard drugs, and formed a supramolecular complex with CYP51 the hydrogen bond between the 4-nitrogen of the triazole nucleus and the histidine residue. Preliminary experiments revealed that both of the active molecules and could intercalate into calf thymus DNAs, which might block DNA replication to exhibit their powerful antifungal abilities. Further studies indicated that compound might be stored and transported by human serum albumin through hydrophobic interactions, specific electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonds. These results strongly suggested that compound could serve as a promising antifungal candidate.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is an underrecognized and underreported fungal infection with a high mortality rate. Diagnosis is often confounded by a non-specific constellation of signs and symptoms. We present a case of neutropenic colitis and ileocecal perforation secondary to gastrointestinal mucormycosis.

is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that causes pulmonary cryptococcosis, or an acute or chronic infection in the lungs, and cryptococcal meningitis, an infection of the brain and spinal column, in immunocompromised individuals. Fungal infections are responsible for ~1.7 million deaths each year.

Through horizontal gene transfer, closely related bacterial strains assimilate distinct sets of genes, resulting in significantly varied lifestyles. However, it remains unclear how strains properly regulate horizontally transferred virulence genes. We hypothesized that strains may use components of the core genome to regulate diverse horizontally acquired genes.

is an environmental opportunistic fungal pathogen, which can lead to invasive aspergillosis in immunocompromised individuals, and resistant to conventional antifungual agents has become a growing concern. This study investigated the antifungal activity and the molecular antifungal mechanisms of Cinnamaldehyde (CA) against , specifically its impact on metabolic pathways and protein metabolism. In susceptibility tests, CA was found to exhibit promising antifungal activity against in both solid and liquid culture (biomass) systems, with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determined as 40-80 μg/mL.

Candidemia, a common hospital-acquired bloodstream infection, is associated with significant mortality, particularly in cases involving (). The Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, has seen an increasing number of invasive infections. This review examines the epidemiology, risk factors, antifungal susceptibility, clinical manifestations, and mortality associated with , based on published literature from Saudi Arabia.
