To evaluate the immediate responses to forearm compression of blood lactate concentration, heart rate, perceived exertion and local forearm muscle pain during severe climbing in elite climbers. Seven elite climbers (18 ± 2 years; 164 ± 5 cm; 57.8 ± 5.3 kg) performed 3 × 3 climbing bouts with maximal intensity on a distinct 8 m boulder wall (lead grade: 7a-8b) in a single blinded, placebo-controlled cross-over design, wearing either forearm sleeves with compression (verum-compression) or placebo forearm sleeves with no compression (falsum-compression). Each climber's heart rate was recorded during and capillary blood lactate concentration, perceived exertion and forearm muscle pain were assessed directly after climbing. Heart rate ( = 0.45, = 0.12), blood lactate concentrations ( = 0.44, = 0.10), perceived exertion levels ( = 0.51, = 0.08) and pain perception ( = 0.67, = 0.03) were not affected by forearm compression. No condition × time interaction effect (compression × time) occurred for heart rate ( = 0.66, = 0.04), blood lactate concentration ( = 0.70, = 0.02), perceived exertion ( = 0.20, = 0.26) and pain perception ( = 0.62, = 0.04). In elite climbers performing severe climbing bouts, sleeves with forearm compression do not alter blood lactate concentration, heart rate, perceived exertion and local forearm muscle pain.

The diagnosis of hemolysis is still based on straightforward biochemical parameters: haptoglobin (the most sensitive), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and unconjugated bilirubin. Anemia is not always present. Reticulocyte counts typically exceed 120×10/L, except in cases of associated vitamin deficiency or during the very early phase of acute hemolysis.

Unlabelled: Insulin resistance has been associated with acute mountain sickness (AMS) risk, but the influence of active ascent is unclear.
Methods: Thirty-two unacclimatized Soldiers (23±4yr; 80±14 kg) were tested at baseline residence (BLR), hiked ~5 km (n=16) or were driven (n=16) to 4,300 m, and stayed for 4 days (~66 h). Venous blood was taken each morning at BLR and during high altitude (HA) exposure days 2-4 (HA2-4) and the evening on day 1 at HA (HA1).

Approximately 30-40% of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients will develop relapse/refractory disease, who may benefit from novel therapies, such as CAR-T cell therapy. Thus, accurate identification of individuals at high risk of early chemoimmunotherapy failure (ECF) is crucial. Methods.

Background: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening hematologic emergency caused by ADAMTS13 deficiency, leading to microvascular thrombosis, haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia, and end-organ damage. Neurological symptoms occur in up to 90% of cases and are frequently misdiagnosed as stroke. Prompt recognition and treatment reduce the mortality rate from over 90% to 10-20%.

Introduction: Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R) encephalitis is a neuropsychiatric disorder with additional psychiatric features caused by NMDA-R immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This report presents the follow-up of a patient in whom we assumed mild NMDA-R encephalitis in the first psychotic episode.
Case Study: A patient with a prior episode of an acute polymorphic psychotic syndrome relapsed five and a half years later following a severe COVID-19 infection.
