Article Abstract

is one of the most popular edible mushrooms in the world and contains useful medicinal components such as lentinan. The whole-genome sequence of has been determined with the objective of discovering candidate genes associated with agronomic traits, but experimental verification of gene models with correction of gene prediction errors is lacking. To improve the accuracy of gene prediction, we produced 12.6 Gb of long-read transcriptome data of variable lengths using PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing and generated 36,946 transcript clusters with an average length of 2.2 kb. Evidence-driven gene prediction on the basis of long- and short-read RNA sequencing data was performed; a total of 16,610 protein-coding genes were predicted with error correction. Of the predicted genes, 42.2% were verified to be covered by full-length transcript clusters. The raw reads have been deposited in the NCBI SRA database under accession number PRJNA396788.

Autoimmune diseases (AIDs) constitute a group of disorders where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's tissues. The pathogenesis of AIDs involve a breakdown in immune tolerance, culminating in an immune response that targets autoantigens. In adaptive immunity, secondary rearrangement of T cell receptors (TCRs) and B cell receptors (BCRs) involves sequential V(D)J recombination events during lymphocyte development.

Fatty acid synthase in high and low lipid-producing strains of Mucor circinelloides: identification, phylogenetic analysis, and expression profiling during growth and lipid accumulation.

Fatty acid synthase (FAS) is one of the most important enzymes in lipid biosynthesis, which can catalyze the reaction of acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA to produce fatty acids. However, the structure, function, and molecular mechanism of FAS regulating lipid synthesis in the fungus Mucor circinelloides are unclear. In the present study, two encoding fas genes in the high lipid-producing strain WJ11 and low lipid-producing strain CBS277.

Transcription factor MaAP-1 regulates conidiation patterns via YAP domain binding to the MaPom1 promoter in Metarhizium acridum: Implications for enhancing fungal biocontrol efficiency.

Entomopathogenic fungi such as Metarhizium acridum are pivotal for sustainable pest management, yet the industrial conidial production is hindered by low yields and environmental sensitivity. Transcriptional regulation provides key targets for engineering strain modification. AP-1 transcription factors (TFs) are well-known for their roles in fungal growth, development, conidiation, pathogenicity and stress tolerance across various fungi.

The effects of climatic variability on the occurrence of Aspergillus species in commercial maize from different agro-climatic regions in South Africa.

Most African research reports on the frequent aflatoxin contamination of various foodstuffs, with few reports giving details of the Aspergillus species present in these commodities. Numerous research works provide evidence of the ability of fungi to grow, thrive, and interact with other crop species and focus on the fact that these processes are largely affected by climatic variables. As opposed to the attention directed to the above-mentioned themes, information on the biodiversity of Aspergillus species in maize in most African countries, including South Africa, is lacking.

Maize anthracnose, caused by the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum graminicola, is among the most devastating diseases affecting maize production. Homeobox transcription factors (HTFs) regulate key developmental and physiological processes in eukaryotes, including fungal pathogenesis. In this study, we identified two HTFs, CgrHtf1 and CgrAfh1, in C.
