Article Abstract

The implant-associated infection remains a serious problem in clinic. A better compromise between the anti-infection property and biocompatibility of bone filling materials is still required. In this work, carboxylated chitosan/silver-hydroxyapatite (CMCS/Ag-HA) hybrid microspheres were fabricated via a facile gas diffusion method. CMCS and Ag ion were evenly distributed into hybrid microspheres. CMCS regulated the morphological characteristics of the as-synthesized hybrid microspheres. As the content of CMCS increased, the size of the sample increased and dispersion exacerbated. In addition, antimicrobial studies demonstrated that CMCS/Ag-HA hybrid microspheres exhibited an excellent antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus because of the synergistic effect of Ag and CMCS. In vitro cell tests indicated that the as-prepared CMCS/Ag-HA hybrid microspheres promoted the proliferation and adhesion of MG63 cells. CMCS/Ag-HA hybrid microspheres showed excellent bactericidal property and biocompatibility; thus, they could be used in biomedical applications, such as infection-resistant bone replacement materials.

Bone marrow (BM), a natural niche rich in growth factors and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), provides an optimal regenerative microenvironment and is widely used in clinical applications. However, the limited proliferative capacity of BMSCs and the mismatch between bone regeneration and growth factors release constrain their effectiveness in treating critical bone defects. Drawing inspiration from the regenerative properties of BM, we developed self-assembled hybrid microspheres to replicate its function and address these challenges through a tissue engineering approach.

The NiO microflowers electrode material was synthesized through a simple and low-cost hydrothermal method using hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) to provide hydroxide ions for the formation of corresponding precursors. On this basis, the effect of HMTA dosage on the morphology and electrochemical performance of nickel oxide was investigated. Two kinds of NiO powdered materials with distinct morphologies were successfully prepared.

In order to extend the shelf life of food especially under sunlight, a synergistic dual-component reinforcement strategy of graphene (graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide aerogel microspheres) and TiCT MXene was applied as fillers in gelatin (GL) matrix. After simultaneous mechanical stirring and ultrasonication, followed by an ultrasonic cell grinding treatment process, the uniform dispersion and full exfoliation of both kinds of fillers in the GL matrix were ensured through the green synthesis method, which effectively enhanced the antibacterial, mechanical, ultraviolet-visible light barrier, and antioxidant properties of GL. Among these fillers, graphene (GE)/TiCT showed the best enhancing effect because GE had more complete graphene rings with greater extent of sp2-hybridized carbons as well as more edges.

High-entropy oxides represent a burgeoning class of anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. They reduce the mutual repulsion among constituent elements, enhance structural stability, and effectively mitigate volume changes-induced structural collapse and capacity decay during charge-discharge cycles. However, the complex elemental composition of high-entropy oxides complicate their lithium storage mechanism, particularly the evolution of structural stability during cycling, which requires further elucidation.
