We address the problem of discovering pairs of symmetric genomic words (i.e., words and the corresponding reversed complements) occurring at distances that are overrepresented. For this purpose, we developed new procedures to identify symmetric word pairs with uncommon empirical distance distribution and with clusters of overrepresented short distances. We speculate that patterns of overrepresentation of short distances between symmetric word pairs may allow the occurrence of non-standard DNA conformations, such as hairpin/cruciform structures. We focused on the human genome, and analysed both the complete genome as well as a version with known repetitive sequences masked out. We reported several well-defined features in the distributions of distances, which can be classified into three different profiles, showing enrichment in distinct distance ranges. We analysed in greater detail certain pairs of symmetric words of length seven, found by our procedure, characterised by the surprising fact that they occur at single distances more frequently than expected.

Objective: To develop a technique for 3D analysis of the upper part of the cervical spine, to study possible correlations with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) parameters in patients with signs of its dysfunction.
Material And Methods: The data from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the heads of 92 patients who sought treatment for TMJ dysfunction (49 people), comprehensive dental treatment (28 people), and orthognathic surgical treatment (15 people) were analyzed. Patients with signs of TMJ dysfunction were divided into 2 subgroups: 1 - patients with asymmetric narrowing of the articular gap (24 people); 2 - patients with symmetrical narrowing (25 people).

CNNs have demonstrated superior performance in medical image segmentation. To overcome the limitation of only using local receptive field, previous work has attempted to integrate Transformers into convolutional network components such as encoders, decoders, or skip connections. To address the challenges faced by current brain midline segmentation techniques, such as insufficient accuracy and poor segmentation continuity, this paper proposes a deep learning network model based on a two-stage framework. On the first stage of the model, prior knowledge of the feature consistency of adjacent brain midline slices under normal and pathological conditions is utilized. Associated midline slices are selected through slice similarity analysis, and a novel feature weighting strategy is adopted to collaboratively fuse the overall change characteristics and spatial information of these associated slices, thereby enhancing the feature representation of the brain midline in the intracranial region.

Coal mining, as a typical human-induced engineering disturbance, alters the original stress field of overlying strata, triggering rock collapse and forming mining-induced pores and stratum pores. This not only exacerbates the risk of mine water hazards and gas outbursts but also threatens the safety of ground-based buildings and structures. However, the development and utilisation of underground space in abandoned mine areas as a potential resource provides an innovative approach to their comprehensive management.
