Obesity represents a major global health challenge, requiring interventions that are both effective and economically sustainable. This review examines the cost-effectiveness of commonly discussed treatment options: glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), and metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS). We synthesized evidence from published clinical studies and economic analyses, comparing incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) and cost per quality-adjusted life year across obesity severity classes, with particular consideration of implications for Korea's healthcare context.

The Millard's rat (), a threatened murid endemic to Southeast Asian montane rainforests and the sole member of its monotypic genus, faces escalating endangered risks as a Near Threatened species in China's Biodiversity Red List. This ecologically specialized rodent exhibits diagnostic morphological adaptations-hypertrophied upper molars and cryptic pelage-that underpin niche differentiation in undisturbed tropical/subtropical forests. Despite its evolutionary distinctiveness, the conservation prioritization given to is hindered due to a deficiency of data and unresolved phylogenetic relationships.

Importance: Acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) is a well-known blood conservation technique, yet its adoption in the US remains low (<20%), and cardiac surgery remains the largest consumer of blood components. Increasing vulnerabilities in the US blood supply underscore the need to reassess ANH effectiveness in blood conservation.
Objective: To evaluate ANH use in perioperative transfusion and blood component use in patients undergoing surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
