Recent ancient DNA studies on European Neolithic human populations have provided persuasive evidence of a major migration of farmers originating from the Aegean, accompanied by sporadic hunter-gatherer admixture into early Neolithic populations, but increasing toward the Late Neolithic. In this context, ancient mitochondrial DNA data collected from the Neolithic necropolis of Gurgy (Paris Basin, France), the largest mitochondrial DNA sample obtained from a single archeological site for the Early/Middle Neolithic period, indicate little differentiation from farmers associated to both the Danubian and Mediterranean Neolithic migration routes, as well as from Western European hunter-gatherers. To test whether this pattern of differentiation could arise in a single unstructured population by genetic drift alone, we used serial coalescent simulations. We explore female effective population size parameter combinations at the time of the colonization of Europe 45000 years ago and the most recent of the Neolithic samples analyzed in this study 5900 years ago, and identify conditions under which population panmixia between hunter-gatherers/Early-Middle Neolithic farmers and Gurgy cannot be rejected. In relation to other studies on the current debate of the origins of Europeans, these results suggest increasing hunter-gatherer admixture into farmers' group migrating farther west in Europe.

Aluminum is a lightweight and corrosion-resistant metal element that is widely used in industries, construction, food, and pharmaceuticals, and it can adversely affect multiple organ systems including the nervous system, skeletal system, reproductive system, blood system, and immune system. In present study, we investigated the effects of aluminum exposure on mammalian embryo development. Our data demonstrate that aluminum exposure induces mouse early embryo development defects, including those at the zygotes and 2-cell stages, causing a decrease in general transcription activity.

Objective: This study aimed to identify potential mutations associated with major depressive disorder (MDD) and evaluate disease-associated risk factors.
Methods: Total genomic DNAwas extracted from the participants' blood samples, and the complete mitochondrial genome wasamplified by PCR, purified, and sequenced. Mutation burden analysis and functional mutation analysis was performed, including total mutation counts, highly conserved mutations (Conservation Index >75 %), and structurally disruptive mutations.

Cattle are a reservoir for the zoonotic human foodborne pathogen Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), the causative agent of many disease outbreaks associated with contaminated fresh leafy greens. Concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) housing cattle generate fugitive dust, however the potential risk of STEC movement by means of the aerosolized dust is not well known. In this investigation, we used metagenome sequencing of air samples collected in an agricultural setting to investigate airborne transfer of STEC from a large CAFO to the surrounding area.
