No-take zones (NTZs) are expected to rebuild exploited fish populations, yet their performance is rarely assessed with species-level indicators. We quantified the reserve effect of the Nonza-San Fiurenzu NTZ (24.2 km2) inside the Marine Natural Park of Cap Corse and Agriate (north-western Mediterranean) and simultaneously compared the effectiveness of two underwater visual census (UVC).

Understanding groundwater movement within karst aquifers remains challenging because flow-defining conduit and fracture networks are both complex and inaccessible. In Grand Canyon National Park, dye tracers have been used to establish flow paths for springs that support ecosystems and park operations. Unfortunately, these point-to-point studies are limited when attempting to extrapolate flow paths over thousands of square kilometers.

Nicotine is a highly used addictive substance that has recently also become available through electronic cigarettes. Here we present a study of nicotine from e-cigarette liquids through reversed-phase (RP) and hydrophilic interaction (HILIC) liquid chromatography. Multiple aqueous mobile-phase additives are considered for the RP mechanism, focusing on chaotropic agents, mobile-phase concentrations and mixing ratios, and column temperature.

Symmetry-protected topological phases cannot be described by any local order parameter and are beyond the conventional symmetry-breaking model. They are characterized by topological boundary modes that remain stable under symmetry respecting perturbations. In clean, gapped systems without disorder, the stability of these edge modes is restricted to the zero-temperature manifold; at finite temperatures, interactions with mobile thermal excitations lead to their decay.

To address the limitations of mobile robots in path planning within farmland-specific environments, this paper proposes a biomimetic model: Multi-strategy Collaborative Evolution Honey Badger Algorithm (MCEHBA), MCEHBA achieves improvements through the following strategies: firstly, integrating a sinusoidal function-based nonlinear convergence factor to dynamically balance global exploration and local exploitation; secondly, combining the differential evolution strategy to enhance population diversity, and utilizing gravity-centred opposition-based learning to improve solution space search efficiency; finally, constructing good point set initialization and decentralized boundary constraint handling strategy to further increase convergence accuracy and speed. This paper validates the effectiveness of the optimization strategy and the performance of MCEHBA through the CEC2017 benchmark function set, and assesses the statistical significance of the results using the Friedman test and Nemenyi test. The findings demonstrate that MCEHBA exhibits excellent optimization capabilities.
