Metabolic adjustment to changing environmental conditions, particularly balancing of growth and defense responses, is crucial for all organisms to survive. The evolutionary conserved AMPK/Snf1/SnRK1 kinases are well-known metabolic master regulators in the low-energy response in animals, yeast and plants. They act at two different levels: by modulating the activity of key metabolic enzymes, and by massive transcriptional reprogramming. While the first part is well established, the latter function is only partially understood in animals and not at all in plants. Here we identified the Arabidopsis transcription factor bZIP63 as key regulator of the starvation response and direct target of the SnRK1 kinase. Phosphorylation of bZIP63 by SnRK1 changed its dimerization preference, thereby affecting target gene expression and ultimately primary metabolism. A bzip63 knock-out mutant exhibited starvation-related phenotypes, which could be functionally complemented by wild type bZIP63, but not by a version harboring point mutations in the identified SnRK1 target sites.

Mechanoresponsive molecular devices are capable of exhibiting dynamic responses to external mechanical stimuli, enabling applications in smart materials, nano-devices, and flexible electronics. However, energy conversion induced by mechanical stimuli requires efficient energy dissipation mechanisms. Traditional methods often involve bond breaking or incomplete energy release, which can lead to device failure during continuous operations.

Two-dimensional ferroelectrics with large out-of-plane polarization (OOP) are promising for the design of low-power memory and logic devices, but their experimental realization remains limited due to the scarcity of homobilayers and the complexity of heterobilayers. Here, we perform high-throughput screening of 24,960 configurations and identify 43 semiconducting heterobilayer ferroelectrics with an OOP exceeding the experimentally reported value in MoS/WS while maintaining sliding barriers below 100 meV/f.u.

This study employs a suite of quantum chemical methods to systematically investigate the photoisomerization mechanism and antioxidant activity of resveratrol (Res) and two key derivatives, Azo-Resveratrol (AzoRes) and Dihydro-Resveratrol (dhRes), thereby elucidating the impact of molecular scaffold modification on their structure-activity relationships. Employing density functional theory (DFT), time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT), spin-flip TD-DFT and multistate complete active space second-order perturbation theory (MS-CASPT2), we investigated the geometric configurations, absorption spectra, photoisomerization pathways, and key antioxidant parameters for all three molecules. The results reveal that the substitution of the CC bond with an NN linkage (AzoRes) induces a bathochromic shift in the absorption spectrum, introduces a low-energy n → π* transition, and facilitates a barrierless photoisomerization pathway.

Background: Estimating dose delivered to patients for a typical mammographic or radiologic examination requires accurate knowledge of several beam quantities. X-ray multimeters (XMMs) are compact, solid-state semiconductor dosimeters that have become common for conventional QA measurements due to their ease of use.
Purpose: In this investigation, the performance of two XMMs in low-energy x-ray calibration beams was assessed, and the stability of the manufacturer's calibration over time was evaluated.

We present a systematic investigation of the optical response to circularly polarized illumination in twisted stacked plasmonic nanostructures. The system consists in two identical, parallel gold triskelia, centrally aligned and rotated at a certain angle relative to each other. Sample fabrication was accomplished through a novel multilevel high-resolution electron beam lithography.
