The purpose of this study was to fabricate BMP-2-immobilized porous poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microspheres (PMS) modified with heparin for bone regeneration. A fluidic device was used to fabricate PMS and the fabricated PMS was modified with heparin-dopamine (Hep-DOPA). Bone morphogenic protein-2 (BMP-2) was immobilized on the heparinized PMS (Hep-PMS) via electrostatic interactions. Both PMS and modified PMS were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). MG-63 cell activity on PMS and modified PMS were assessed via alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium deposition, and osteocalcin and osteopontin mRNA expression. Immobilized Hep-DOPA and BMP-2 on PMS were demonstrated by XPS analysis. BMP-2-immobilized Hep-PMS provided significantly higher ALP activity, calcium deposition, and osteocalcin and osteopontin mRNA expression compared to PMS alone. These results suggest that BMP-2-immobilized Hep-PMS effectively improves MG-63 cell activity. In conclusion, BMP-2-immobilized Hep-PMS can be used to effectively regenerate bone defects.

Macrophages play critical roles in various physiological and pathological processes, yet their scalable production for therapeutic applications remains a challenge. Here, we present a porous microscaffold (PMS) that enables robust hematopoietic differentiation from human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived mesoderm. Within PMS, mesoderm cells self-organize into vascular structures reminiscent of the early aorta-gonad-mesonephros (AGM) niches, promoting efficient endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition with minimal cytokine supplementation.

Landfill leachate is a major environmental concern because of its high content of persistent organic compounds (POCs), which require advanced treatment techniques. This study introduces a novel hybrid ozonation-TiO-modified fly ash composite (FA@TiO) process enhanced by a peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for POC degradation in landfill leachate. The FA@TiO composite, synthesized the sol-gel method with optimal 20% TiO loading, leverages fly ash's cost-effectiveness and TiO's catalytic prowess.

The current application of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for continuous and efficient activation in antibiotic wastewater treatment is hindered by poor reusability of powdered catalysts and limited mass transfer efficiency. To address these challenges, this study developed a nitrogen-doped carbon-coated cobalt nanoparticle (Co@NC)/polyvinylidene fluoride/carbon paper (Co@NC/PVDF/CP) conductive composite membrane via magnetically induced non-solvent phase inversion. Integrated into an electrofiltration system, this membrane enables simultaneous PMS activation and pollutant removal.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between essential trace element levels in FF and PCOS and to determine whether this association was mediated by the antioxidant stress indicator cysteine (Cys). In addition, the effect of ambient PM exposure on the mediation effect of Cys was examined.
Methods: A case-control study was conducted, which involved 420 patients with PCOS and 408 controls.

Metal-free photocatalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation offer a sustainable approach to water purification, though achieving high efficiency remains challenging. Herein, we reported an oxygen/methyl-modified carbon nitride (OMCN) as efficient PMS activator for phenolic pollutant removal. Through facile one-pot thermal copolymerization of urea and dimethyl malonate, the electronic structure of carbon nitride was engineered to generate a strong internal electric field that significantly enhances charge separation.
