Article Abstract

Nanoscale metal ring and dot catalyst arrays are printed over large substrate areas using vertically aligned carbon-based stamps with the ring- and dot-shaped tips. The fundamental nature of these ring and dot catalysts is successfully compared by applying them in diverse electrocatalytic reactions in acidic and alkaline media.

Epiploic appendagitis: An overlooked cause of acute abdominal pain.

World J Gastroenterol

August 2025

Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University, Tanta 31511, Algharbia, Egypt.

Background: Epiploic appendagitis is a rare, often underrecognized cause of acute abdominal pain. Misdiagnosis can lead to unnecessary hospitalization, antibiotic use, or surgical intervention. Advances in imaging have improved the recognition of this self-limiting condition, but clinical awareness remains critical.

In this paper, we present what we believe to be a novel method based on the coaxial reverse Hartmann principle for the online measurement and calibration of large-size flat tempered glass surface shapes. By embedding a pinhole-ring light source component at the center of a dot matrix pattern light source and employing a movable flat standard sample, we achieve rapid calibration of the optical axis and the mapping relationship between the spot centroid coordinates on detector surface and the incident angles of light. This coaxial reverse Hartmann optical path features no loss of light energy, a direct coaxial configuration, and no light obstruction, which minimizes the incident angle of light compared to off-axis optical paths, thereby reducing the influence of surface vibration on measurement accuracy.

Objective: The safety perception of longitudinal distance by drivers in tunnels is critical for road safety. However, existing studies mainly focus on the effects of visual guiding facilities on speed perception and vehicle position, with limited research on their impact on longitudinal distance perception. This study aims to evaluate the effect of different types of visual guiding facilities on drivers' safety perception of longitudinal distance in freeway tunnels.

Bio-Inspired Structural Color Irises as Physical Unclonable Functions for Anti-Counterfeiting.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

July 2025

Sauvage Laboratory for Smart Materials, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Flexible Printed Electronics Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Shenzhen, 518000, China.

The global proliferation of high-value commodities has the intensified demand for advanced anti-counterfeiting solutions. Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) present a viable authentication mechanism, yet existing implementations exhibit three critical limitations: suboptimal authentication accuracy, insufficient multi-level security architecture, and dependence on costly and specialized equipment for verification. To address these issues, this work utilizes colloidal photonic crystals to fabricate PUF anti-counterfeiting patterns spanning from the macro-to-micro scale.
