Article Abstract

We investigate numerically and experimentally the spectral correlation between multiple modulation instability (MI) side lobes in a dispersion oscillating fiber. By leveraging the dispersive Fourier transformation, we acquire instantaneous spectra and investigate the energy correlation between individual MI sidebands through scattergrams. We found that conjugate MI side lobes are strongly correlated while other combinations experience a very low degree of correlation, revealing that parametric processes related to each side lobe pair act quasi-independently.

Background: Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, with a particularly high burden in China and a poor prognosis mainly due to late-stage diagnosis and limited effective treatments. Large-sample survival analyses are lacking for patients with lung cancer who nodules of present with same-lobe, multi-lobe, or mixed nodules, as well as those with multiple separate nodules. This study aimed to assess the survival rates of patients with lung cancer by focusing on overall survival and disease-specific survival.

Background: Carotid artery stenosis could contribute to gradual loss of brain function through chronic hypoxia and ischemia.

Methods: We included consecutive participants of the population-based Rotterdam Study with unilateral ≥50 % stenosis at the carotid artery bifurcation on time-of-flight carotid MR angiography, and compared between hemispheres the presence of ischemic lesions, tissue volumes, and white matter integrity on structural brain MRI.

Results: Among 50 participants (mean age 76 years, 50 % women), flow was lower in the affected carotid artery than on the unaffected side (160mL/min versus 202mL/min; flow reduction [95 %CI] per 1 % increase in stenosis: 1.

The flexibility and versatility of nano-assembled plasmonic structures provide platforms for mesoscale tunable optical modulation. Our recently developed model for these nano-assembled plasmonic structures is composed of a dielectric spherical core surrounded by a concentric spherical shell containing a random distribution of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). This model provides a useful platform for studying the role of a controlled amount of disorder on scattering by a particle.

Main lobe shifting and splitting phenomena of Airy beams are theoretically investigated based on the spatial light modulator (SLM) method. By digitally modulating the phase masks on the SLM, the single main lobe of the 2D symmetric Airy beam shifts to its neighboring side lobe. This results in the main-lobe splitting and the formation of a two-main-lobe state.

Hepatoblastoma (HB) is a rare but highly malignant tumor that commonly arises in utero. The mainstay treatment is surgical resection, with adjuvant treatment options including chemotherapy, hepatic artery chemoembolization, and liver transplantation. Yttrium-90 (Y90) transarterial radioembolization (TARE Y90) is a developing treatment option that utilizes radioactive beads delivered specifically to blood vessels supplying the tumor.
