Background: Erythropoietin (EPO), in addition to its function as an erythropoiesis regulator has a regenerative activity on some nonhematopoietic tissues. Animal studies have suggested a role for erythropoietin in bone healing.
Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of local EPO injection in healing of tibiofibular fractures.
Materials And Methods: In a prospective double blind study, 60 patients with tibiofibular fracture were divided to equal EPO or placebo groups, randomly. Patients received local injection of either EPO or a placebo to the site of fracture two weeks after surgical fixation. Patients were followed by clinical and radiographic examination to determine the union rate. The period of fracture union and incidence of nonunion were compared between the two groups.
Results: The demographic data and types of fractures were similar in the both groups. The mean duration of the fracture union was 2.1 weeks shorter in those treated with EPO (P = 0.01). Nonunion was observed in 6 patients of the control group and 2 receiving EPO (P = 0.02). No patient experienced any adverse effect from local EPO injections.
Conclusions: EPO injection into the site of tibiofibular fractures may possibly accelerate healing.

Injuries to the distal tibiofibular joint are often associated with ankle fractures, sports-related injuries, or instability, whereas proximal tibiofibular joint injuries are more commonly present with lateral- or posterolateral-compartment lesions of the knee. These conditions may be related to the relative motion between the tibia and fibula; however, precise movement patterns have yet to be fully elucidated. This study analyzes the relative motion of the tibia and fibula in 16 healthy adults (32 bones; 8 males and 8 females) throughout a normal gait cycle.

Background: Bimalleolar equivalent fractures (BEF) represent a particularly challenging subset of ankle fractures, with ongoing debate among ankle surgeons about the necessity of systematic deltoid ligament repair. The present study aims to address this controversy by investigating the radiological and clinical outcomes of deltoid ligament repair in BEF compared to conservative management.
Hypothesis: Systematic deltoid ligament repair in BEF is not necessary.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) versus closed reduction and external fixation (CREF) in treating tibiofibular fractures, focusing on their impact on bone metabolism and inflammatory responses.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 95 patients with tibiofibular fractures, categorised into the CRIF group (CRIFG) and the CREF group (CREFG). Clinical efficacy, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, serum bone metabolism markers, serum inflammatory cytokines, Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOLI-74) scores, and adverse reactions (AR) were compared between the groups.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of limb shortening/re-lengthening technique combined with tissue regeneration technique in limb salvage for patients with complex lower limb fractures and soft tissue defects.
Methods: Between January 2021 and December 2024, 12 patients with complex lower limb fractures and soft tissue defects caused by trauma were admitted. There were 10 males and 2 females; the age ranged from 18 to 46 years, with an average of 36 years.
