Background: Despite growing interest in women's physiology in exercise sciences, the understanding of female athletes' energy metabolism remains limited. This study aimed to analyze substrate oxidation in response to energetic stimuli in female athletes using or not hormonal contraceptives, and to determine the influence of the estradiol-to-progesterone ratio fluctuations on energy metabolism.

Methods: Body composition (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), energy expenditure and substrate oxidation rates (resting, low-intensity walking exercise (4 km/h), and postprandial conditions; indirect calorimetry) were assessed among 32 athletes (23±3 years) during a high-training load period, in athletes using or not hormonal contraceptives (nine and 23, respectively).

Introduction: A hyperkinetic circulatory response has been described in some metabolic myopathies, a heterogeneous group of inborn errors of intermediary metabolism that interfere with the generation of ATP in skeletal muscle. However, an accurate picture of the cardiovascular response to exercise in the various metabolic myopathies remains elusive.

Material And Methods: We therefore sought to systematically review the literature by searching the PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase databases.

Background: Bimalleolar equivalent fractures (BEF) represent a particularly challenging subset of ankle fractures, with ongoing debate among ankle surgeons about the necessity of systematic deltoid ligament repair. The present study aims to address this controversy by investigating the radiological and clinical outcomes of deltoid ligament repair in BEF compared to conservative management.

Hypothesis: Systematic deltoid ligament repair in BEF is not necessary.

Predicting therapeutic failure in patients with chronic phase-chronic myeloid leukemia (CP-CML) treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) remains a major challenge for personalized care management. The Sokal and EUTOS long-term survival scores were designed to predict CML-related mortality, but are also used to guide therapeutic choices, despite their poor performance for this purpose. A recent study proposed a refined predictive model of therapy failure specifically tailored for patients treated with imatinib and second-generation TKIs that showed promising results in a Chinese cohort.

To investigate the effects of a Tai Chi (TC) programme (hospital-based or remote) on total physical activity (PA) time in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA ). Between January 2019 and July 2021, patients with stable AS (BASDAI ≤ 40/100 or symptoms at an acceptable level, within the last six months) were enrolled in a four-month parallel, two-arm pilot study. Participants were randomised to either the immediate Tai Chi group (ITG), starting face-to-face TC immediately after enrolment for a duration of 4 months, or to the waiting list control group (WLCG), which started a 2 month face-to-face TC programme 2 months after enrolment.

Rationale: The COVID-19 pandemic required unprecedented measures including visitation restrictions.

Objectives: To assess their impact on psychological symptoms (anxiety-depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)) among ICU family members.

Methods: In this prospective multicentre quasi-experimental study, family members of patients with invasive mechanical ventilation with or without COVID-19, were enrolled during one of three periods (March 15 - June 5) subject to visitation restriction policies mandated by French health authorities: forbidden (2020, n= 304), restricted (2021, n= 294) and unrestricted (2022, n= 213).

Introduction: In the intensive care unit (ICU), brain-injured patients are frequently exposed to mechanical ventilation to protect the brain and preserve physiology. After intracranial pressure control and sedation withdrawal, this population is prone to residual disorder of consciousness and altered neurological control of respiratory drive, cough and airway protection. Consequently, extubation failure is more frequent than in general ICU patients, and there is no clear evidence-based clinical trigger for extubation.

Chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) is common in sports. Whereas traditional open Broström-Gould surgery remains the gold standard for anterior talofibular ligament repair, advances in arthroscopic techniques with knotless suture anchors offer promising alternatives, reducing recovery time and complications. This article presents a minimally invasive arthroscopic technique for anterior talofibular ligament reconstruction with knotless anchors, reattaching the ligament to the fibula and minimizing risks of knot irritation and impingement.

Unlabelled: Understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating osteo/cementogenic differentiation is critical for optimizing cell-based strategies in periodontal regeneration. This study employed multivariate statistical modeling to investigate, in vitro, the interaction between bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) and asporin (ASPN) in human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs) and its impact on mineralization potential. Four primary hPDLSC populations-two with high osteo/cementogenic potential (HOP) and two with low potential (LOP)-were cultured under standard (SDM) and osteo/cementogenic (OM) conditions.

Previous studies have shown that plasma soluble receptor for advanced glycation end-products (sRAGE) and the radiographic assessment of lung edema (RALE) are associated with the severity of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) both at baseline and over time. This study aims to explore the causal relationships among sRAGE, the RALE score, their fluctuations, and 90-day survival. Causal mediation analysis was conducted as a secondary analysis of the randomized controlled lung imaging for ventilator setting in ARDS (LIVE) trial, which assessed a mechanical ventilation strategy based on lung morphology.

Background: Ventilator-free days (VFDs) are a composite outcome in critical care research, reflecting both survival and mechanical ventilation duration. However, analysis methods for VFDs are inconsistent, with some focusing on counts and others on time-to-event outcomes, while other approaches such as the multistate model and the win ratio have emerged. We aimed to evaluate various statistical models through simulations to identify the optimal approach for analysing VFDs.

Background: Inappropriate fluid administration can impact patient outcome. Intraoperative advanced haemodynamic monitoring coupled with a treatment protocol based on stroke volume optimisation can help determine the appropriate timing for fluid boluses. Although recommended by several anaesthesia societies, this strategy is rarely implemented because protocols are complex and compliance is often poor.
