Article Abstract

Chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) is common in sports. Whereas traditional open Broström-Gould surgery remains the gold standard for anterior talofibular ligament repair, advances in arthroscopic techniques with knotless suture anchors offer promising alternatives, reducing recovery time and complications. This article presents a minimally invasive arthroscopic technique for anterior talofibular ligament reconstruction with knotless anchors, reattaching the ligament to the fibula and minimizing risks of knot irritation and impingement. Postoperatively, patients follow a structured rehabilitation protocol, returning to full activity by 12 weeks. Compared with open techniques, this approach yields superior functional outcomes and esthetic benefits and addresses intra-articular issues associated with CLAI. The knotless arthroscopic technique yields a stable ligament repair with fewer neurologic risks, enhancing patient satisfaction and success. This procedure presents a safe, effective alternative for CLAI treatment.

Right hemisphere language network plasticity in aphasia.

Brain

The role of the right hemisphere in aphasia recovery has been controversial since the 19th century. Imaging studies have sometimes found increased activation in right hemisphere regions homotopic to canonical left hemisphere language regions, but these results have been questioned due to small sample sizes, unreliable imaging tasks, and task performance confounds that affect right hemisphere activation levels even in neurologically healthy adults. Several principles of right hemisphere language recruitment in aphasia have been proposed based on these studies: that the right hemisphere is recruited primarily by individuals with severe left hemisphere damage, that transcallosal disinhibition results in recruitment of right hemisphere regions homotopic to the lesion, and that increased right hemisphere activation diminishes to baseline levels over time.

Lipoma arborescens (LA) is an unusual and benign lesion found in joints, where one can see villous lipomatous synovial proliferation, with the knee joint being the commonest site. It typically presents with chronic joint swelling and pain. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman with a history of knee trauma three years ago, who presented with progressive pain and swelling in the left knee.

Accurate classification of lung lesions at necropsy is crucial for guiding the diagnostic process and ensuring effective management of porcine respiratory diseases. Post-mortem inspection of the lungs during slaughter also provides valuable insights into disease occurrence, offering useful feedback on the efficacy of on-farm prevention and control strategies. However, manual assessment protocols may be impaired by high slaughtering speeds and low inter-rater agreement, which limits continuous data collection and hinders comparability.

Rationale: Between periods of use, chronic cannabis consumers may display residual effects on selective cognitive functions, particularly memory and attention. Whether there are comparable deficits in real-world behaviors, such as driving, has not been thoroughly examined.

Objectives: The current study explored the association between driving simulator performance, cannabis use history, and demographic factors after ≥ 48 h of abstinence.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of age at tympanostomy tube insertion on mastoid air cell development, focusing on whether insertion before 3 years of age is associated with more favorable pneumatization.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 39 children (71 ears) who developed tympanic membrane perforation following tube insertion (tube group), including cases primarily associated with recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM) and otitis media with effusion (OME). The control group consisted of 41 children (41 ears) with congenital cholesteatoma, using their contralateral normal ears as controls.
