Article Abstract

Individuals with isolated terminal deletions of 8p have been well described in the literature, however, molecular characterization, particularly by microarray, of the deletion in most instances is lacking. The phenotype of such individuals falls primarily into two categories: those with cardiac defects, and those without. The architecture of 8p has been demonstrated to contain two inversely oriented segmental duplications at 8p23.1, flanking the gene, GATA4. Haploinsufficiency of this gene has been implicated in cardiac defects seen in numerous individuals with terminal 8p deletion. Current microarray technologies allow for the precise elucidation of the size and gene content of the deleted region. We present three individuals with isolated terminal deletion of 8p distal to the segmental duplication telomeric to GATA4. These individuals present with a relatively mild and nonspecific phenotype including mildly dysmorphic features, developmental delay, speech delay, and early behavior issues.

Breaking the Circuit: A Case of Macro-re-entrant Biatrial Tachycardia.

J Innov Card Rhythm Manag

August 2025

Cardiology Division, Hamilton Health Sciences, Arrhythmia Service Unit, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada.

We present a case of a 71-year-old woman with symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and atypical atrial flutter (AFL), ultimately diagnosed with a rare type 3 macro-re-entrant biatrial tachycardia (BiAT). Despite initial pulmonary vein isolation and anterior line ablation for atypical AFL, she experienced recurrent AFL requiring a complex redo ablation. Successful termination of the tachycardia was achieved by extending ablation to the septal regions of both atria.

Study on Apoptosis of Various Tissues at Different Intervals after Death of Yangtze Sturgeon ().

September 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Three Gorges Project for Conservation of Fishes, Yichang, Hubei, China.

The collection and preservation of postmortem genetic material from recently deceased animals of rare and endangered species represent a critical yet underexplored avenue in conservation biology. While extensive research has been conducted on the human postmortem interval (PMI), there is a notable gap in understanding the postmortem preservation of germplasm in endangered species. This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of apoptosis in various tissues of the Yangtze sturgeon at different postmortem time points, and to provide a reference for identifying the optimal time window for germplasm preservation in rare and endangered fish in the wild.

NMR insights on multidomain proteins: the case of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleoprotein.

Studying multidomain proteins, especially those combining well-folded domains with intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), requires specific Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to address their structural complexity. To illustrate this, we focus here on the nucleocapsid protein from SARS-CoV-2, which includes both structured and disordered regions. We applied a suite of NMR methods, combining ARTINA software for automatic assignment and structure modelling with multi-receiver experiments that simultaneously capture signals from different nuclear spins, increasing both data quality and acquisition efficiency.
