Cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma (cNEC) is rarely seen in the external ear. In this paper, we newly describe a patient with cNEC in his right external auditory canal, followed by a further discussion on the clinical features, diagnosis, and treatments of cNEC of the external ear. A review of the literature showed that cNEC of the external auditory canal generally presents as asymptomatic and that pathology yields the most confirmative diagnosis. A wide resection with adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy is recommended. The overall prognosis of this condition is poor.

Tinnitus, the auditory perception of sound without an external environmental stimulus, affects 15% of the human population and is associated with hearing loss. Interestingly, anxiety may be a significant risk factor in tinnitus pathophysiology potentially due to underlying common neural circuits of the auditory and limbic systems. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of stress-induced anxiety on tinnitus development in a rat model.

Otomycosis is a fungal infection of the external auditory canal, predominantly caused by Candida spp. The increasing resistance of these pathogens to conventional antifungal agents requires the exploration of alternative therapeutic approaches. This study was designed to assess the antifungal, anti-virulence, synergistic potential, and mechanism of action of Thymus vulgaris essential oil (EO) against Candida spp.

BACKGROUND Duplicated internal auditory canal (dIAC) is a rare congenital temporal bone anomaly associated with ipsilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The Bonebridge bone conduction implant has a magnet, an internal transducer, and an external audio processor. This report is of a 14-year-old girl with unilateral SNHL and vestibulocochlear nerve (VIII cranial nerve) aplasia due to dIAC who was treated with a Bonebridge bone conduction implant.

Introduction And Importance: While blunt trauma to the head is a well-recognized cause of middle ear injuries, penetrating traumas are far less common. Due to the close anatomical relations, the potential consequences of such injuries can be catastrophic.
Case Presentation: A man presented following a penetrating injury to the external auditory canal.

Sensory attenuation is a well-established phenomenon in which the neurophysiological response elicited by self-initiated stimuli is attenuated compared to identical externally generated stimuli. This phenomenon is mostly studied by comparing the N1 and P2 components of the auditory ERP. Sensory attenuation has also been linked to our sense of agency and control.
