Article Abstract

The synthesis and electrochemical performance of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) nitroxide polymer brush electrodes for organic radical batteries are reported. The 3DOM electrodes are synthesized via polystyrene colloidal crystal templating with electropolymerization of polypyrrole, modification of surface initiator, and surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization. The discharge capacity of the 3DOM electrodes is proportional to the thickness of the inverse opal. The discharge capacity of the 3DOM electrode at a discharge rate of 5 C is 40 times higher than that of the planar electrode; its cycle-life performance exhibits 96.1% retention after 250 cycles.

Three-dimensionally ordered photonic colloids offer a unique opportunity to directly correlate internal nanoscale morphology with the macroscale optical response. Herein, we present pH-responsive poly(styrene--2-vinylpyridine) (PS--P2VP) colloids with stacked lamellar architecture that exhibit tunable structural color through controlled swelling dynamics. Cross-linking P2VP domains using 1,8-dibromooctane increases initial domain spacing, shifting color from violet to blue-green, while simultaneously restricting acid-induced swelling and red shift.

Three-dimensionally ordered macro-microporous 3DOM-ZIF-8-based peroxophosphotungstate (DIL-PW) is constructed to break the limitation of micropores inherent in traditional supported catalysts. The presence of ordered macropores expose more active sites and significantly enhance mass diffusion, thereby boosting catalytic activity, especially in reactions involving larger molecules. The prepared composite DIL-PW@3DOM-ZIF-8 is verified by various characterization techniques and used as a catalyst for the extraction oxidation desulfurization of multi-component simulated fuel.

Biosurfactants are considered to be desirable alternatives to synthetic surfactants. Sophorolipids produced by nonpathogenic yeast strains are one of the main types of glycolipid biosurfactants and have various applications. In this work, the aqueous phase behavior of the glycolipid-based biosurfactant sophorolipids (SL) was investigated using polarized microscopy, small-angle X-ray diffraction (SAXS), nuclear magnetic deuterium spectroscopy (H NMR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), freeze-etched transmission electron microscopy (FF-TEM), and dynamic light scattering (DLS).

Carbon monoxide (CO) catalytic oxidation offers an effective solution for environmental pollutant; however, its progress is limited by sluggish kinetics, and efficient catalysts remain scarce. Herein, we prepared Ag-Ce co-doped three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) Co-based catalysts through the synergistic approach of co-doping and morphology control, systematically investigating their CO catalytic oxidation mechanisms. The appropriate amount of Ag-Ce co-doping maintained the original 3DOM structure, promote the mass transfer and diffusion of CO, promoted the redox capacity by increasing the ratio of Co to surface reactive oxygen species (O/ O), achieving low temperature conversion of CO.

Solar-driven one-step-excitation overall water splitting is one of the most straightforward ways of achieving scalable solar hydrogen production. Despite its advantage in visible-light response and stability, the pristine bismuth vanadate (BiVO) alone is not capable of achieving overall water splitting due to its conduction band energy level being insufficient for the proton reduction reaction, further limited by the severe charge recombination. Here, we demonstrate the three-dimensionally ordered macroporous BiVO with a carefully enlarged bandgap of 2.
