Article Abstract

The field of MR imaging has grown from diagnosis via morphologic imaging to more sophisticated diagnosis via both physiologic and morphologic imaging and finally to the guidance and control of interventions. A wide variety of interventional procedures from open brain surgeries to noninvasive focused ultrasound ablations have been guided with MR and the differences between diagnostic and interventional MR imaging systems have motivated the creation of a new field within MR. This review discusses the various systems that research groups and vendors have designed to meet the requirements of interventional MR and suggest possible solutions to those requirements that have not yet been met. The common requirements created by MR imaging guidance of interventional procedures are reviewed and different imaging system designs will be independently considered. The motivation and history of the different designs are discussed and the ability of the designs to satisfy the requirements is analyzed.

In vitro assessment of the inhibitory effect of antiplatelet drugs on platelet aggregation is frequently employed to guide personalized antiplatelet therapy in clinical practice. However, existing methods for detecting platelet aggregation rely heavily on high concentrations of exogenous agonists, which may obscure part of the inhibitory effect of antiplatelet drugs and lead to an underestimation of their effects. This study validates a novel analytical strategy for evaluating the effects of antiplatelet drugs by quantifying the microscopic three-dimensional morphological parameters of platelet aggregates formed through spontaneous aggregation on a glass surface.

The COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in India, continues to pose a major threat to public health owing to the large number of patients that remain affected. The second wave of COVID-19 has brought with it several opportunistic diseases caused by bacteria and fungi, including mucormycosis, which is a well-known fungal infection primarily encountered in immunocompromised individuals through inhalation. In recent times, mucormycosis has become increasingly common in COVID-19 patients, particularly those with comorbidities such as diabetes, and has been observed to induce secondary infections as it spreads with COVID-19 treatment.
