Gastric MALT lymphoma diagnosis relies on histopathological findings and immunoglobulin H gene (IgHr) rearrangement testing, which reflects monoclonal immunoglobulin proliferation. This study aimed to clarify the role of IgHr in the diagnosis, treatment prediction, and surveillance of gastric MALT lymphoma. Of the 152 suspected cases, 131 were definitively diagnosed using a combination of IgHr and pathology, with pathological findings considered the gold standard.

Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study analyzed preoperative variables, intraoperative data, postoperative complications, and functional outcomes in patients with hypopharyngeal and supraglottic laryngeal cancers who underwent TORS or ELPS.
Results: Fifty patients were enrolled (21: TORS; 29: ELPS).
Objectives: Although hybrid endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has gained popularity over the years, its usefulness in ensuring an adequate submucosal [SM] layer for T1b (SM invasion depth ≥1,000 μm) colorectal carcinoma (CRC) remains unknown. We retrospectively compared conventional ESD (C-ESD) with planned hybrid ESD (PH-ESD) for cT1b CRCs measuring 20-30 mm.
Methods: We analyzed 71 consecutive cases of cT1b CRC (20-30 mm).
Background: Various subtypes of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with prognosis in various cancer types. In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), TILs have been associated with prognosis in advanced stages of the disease. However, their significance in superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC) remains unknown.

We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and prognosis of patients undergoing endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC) complicated by advanced malignancies in other organs with a poor prognosis.
Methods And Results: We retrospectively reviewed 3703 gastric cancer patients who underwent ESD at our hospital (2005-2022), focusing on those with advanced extra-gastric malignancies with a 5-year survival rate of < 50%.
Background: The precise indications for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in superficial spreading esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC) remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the lymph node metastasis rates and outcomes of ESD for SESCC lesions ≥ 50 mm, focusing on diagnostic accuracy, short-term outcomes, and long-term prognoses.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 79 patients who underwent ESD for SESCC between January 2011 and December 2018.

Methotrexate (MTX), the first-line drug for rheumatoid arthritis, rarely causes malignant lymphomas, which have been reported as MTX-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (MTX-LPD). Herein, report a case of MTX-LPD in the ileum with fistula formation in the small bowel and rectum. At the end of January 2023, an 81-year-old man who had been taking MTX for rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 73 years complained of abdominal pain and was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction at a previous hospital.

With the aging global population, this poses a significant medical and sociodemographic issue. As treatment options for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) expand, the proportion of elderly patients with CRPC is expected to increase.

We aimed to clarify their association with small-bowel bleeding in liver cirrhosis patients with suspected small-bowel bleeding.
Methods: We retrospectively included 165 patients with liver cirrhosis (96 men; median age, 73 years) who underwent capsule endoscopy at our institution: 32 without portal hypertensive enteropathy (Grade 0), 101 with inflammatory-like abnormalities (Grade 1), and 32 with vascular lesions (Grade 2).
Objectives: Conventional nodular gastritis has been known to be caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Several cases of gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma with non-H. pylori Helicobacters (NHPH) exhibit endoscopic findings resembling nodular gastritis.

Steroid injection added to EBD and radial incision and cutting (RIC) are effective for such strictures, but it is unclear which is more effective. The objective of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of RIC plus steroid injection compared with EBD plus steroid injection for patients with refractory anastomotic strictures after esophagectomy.

A submucosal cecal tumor was found, and localized colorectal MALT lymphoma (Lugano stage I) was diagnosed with a Helicobacter pylori infection. The first-line eradication therapy was successful, and the cecal lesion regressed.

Objectives: Studies have suggested that computer-aided polyp detection using artificial intelligence improves adenoma identification during colonoscopy. However, its real-world effectiveness remains unclear. Therefore, this study evaluated the usefulness of computer-aided detection during regular surveillance colonoscopy.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 560 consecutive patients with T1 CRC who underwent endoscopic resection alone (n=190) or initial or additional surgery with LN dissection (n=370) between 1992 and 2017 at Hiroshima University Hospital. Patients were classified into LNM low- and high-risk groups according to guidelines by the JSCCR, NCCN, and ESMO as follows.
Objective Screening and surveillance methodologies for Lynch syndrome (LS) in Japan. This study assessed the changes in LS knowledge and practice trends. Methods In 2020 and 2022, 2 questionnaire surveys were administered to 3,574 councilors of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology to assess changes in LS-related knowledge and practices.

An 80-year-old woman with a history of endoscopic balloon dilation for esophageal stricture caused by accidental ingestion of caustic soda during infancy presented with dysphagia. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 10-cm-long, highly white, elevated lesion with a feathered appearance. This lesion was determined to be the cause of dysphagia and was completely resected via endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Background/objectives: Colorectal neoplasia developing from ulcerative colitis mucosa (CRNUC) can be divided into ulcerative colitis-associated neoplasia (UCAN) and non-UCAN; however, it is often difficult to distinguish UCAN from non-UCAN during a biopsy diagnosis. We investigated whether a genomic analysis could improve the diagnostic accuracy of UCAN using biopsy specimens.
Methods: In step 1, 14 CRNUCs were used to examine whether the genomic landscape of biopsy and resection specimens matched.
Background/objectives: Eradication therapy for gastritis was approved for insurance coverage by the Japanese government in 2013. Since then, the incidence of gastric cancer discovered after eradication (GCAE) has increased. However, there are only a few reports of GCAE diagnosed more than 10 years after eradication.
