  • A study looked at the safety of continuing blood thinners (warfarin and DOACs) in patients needing a stomach procedure for early cancer.
  • It found that people taking warfarin didn't have any bleeding after the procedure, while some people taking DOACs did.
  • The researchers suggest that it's safer to keep using warfarin and that stopping DOACs too close to the procedure can lead to more bleeding problems.

Article Synopsis
  • In familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) patients, fundic gland polyps (FGPs) are thought to increase the risk of gastric neoplasms, and this study explored how the distribution of these polyps relates to cancer development.
  • A review of 195 FAP patients showed that those with a wider distribution of FGPs (classified from P0 to P4) had a higher likelihood of developing gastric neoplasms, particularly in those who were Helicobacter pylori-negative.
  • The study concluded that the pattern of FGP distribution is significantly linked to gastric neoplasm risk in FAP patients, with the most severe distribution (P4) indicating the highest risk.

Article Synopsis
  • Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a hereditary condition leading to hundreds or thousands of colorectal polyps, which can progress to cancer if untreated; it’s caused by mutations in the APC gene.
  • The report discusses two cases where women with FAP experienced an increase in fundic gland polyps after using proton pump inhibitors, which were then reduced upon switching medications.
  • The study concludes that these types of medications can raise gastrin levels, leading to a rapid increase in polyps, and highlights the need for careful prescription of these drugs in FAP patients.
