Introduction: Stents and decompression tubes (DTs) are both commonly utilized for preoperative decompression in patients with left-sided obstructive colorectal cancer (OCRC). However, the comparative effectiveness and oncological safety of these 2 approaches remain uncertain.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare clinical performance and long-term oncological outcomes of preoperative stent and DT insertion in patients with left-sided OCRC.

Background: While there have been prior reports on pulmonary nodule (PN) localization through computed tomography (CT)-guided soft hook-wire (SHW) placement, there remains a dearth of studies specifically focused on the CT-guided SHW localization of multiple PNs. This study was thus designed to specifically evaluate the efficacy and safety of this localization strategy in patients with multiple PNs.

Methods: In total, 43 consecutive patients with multiple PNs underwent CT-guided SHW localization followed by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) to resent these PNs in our hospital between January 2022 and December 2022.

Introduction: In an effort to treat patients with malignant hilar obstruction (MHO), both percutaneous trans-hepatic biliary stenting (PTBS) and endoscopic biliary stenting (EBS) strategies have been implemented in the clinic, but the relative advantages of these techniques remain to be clarified.

Aim: This meta-analysis was designed to compare the relative clinical efficacy of PTBS and EBS in MHO patients.Material and methods: Relevant studies were identified through searches of the PubMed, Web of science, and Wanfang databases, and pooled analyses of these studies were then performed.

Objectives: Whether or not a gastric cancer (GC) patient exhibits lymph node metastasis (LNM) is critical to accurately guiding their treatment and prognostic evaluation, necessitating the ability to reliably predict preoperative LNM status. The present meta-analysis sought to examine the diagnostic value of computed tomography (CT)-based predictive models as a tool to gauge the preoperative LNM status of patients with GC.

Methods: Relevant articles were identified in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Wanfang databases.

Aim: To generate a clinical and MRI-based model capable of predicting the MVI status of ICC patients.

Material And Methods: Consecutive ICC patients evaluated from June 2015 to December 2018 were retrospectively enrolled in a training group to establish a predictive clinical MRI model.

Background: Cognitive impairment is the main factor in the poor prognosis of schizophrenia, but its mechanism remains unclear. The inferior parietal lobule (IPL) is related to various clinical symptoms and cognitive impairment in schizophrenia. We aimed to explore the relationship between IPL-related functions and cognitive impairment in schizophrenia.

Background: Inflammation has been implicated in the pathology of schizophrenia and may cause neuronal cell death and dendrite loss. Neuroimaging studies have highlighted longitudinal brain structural changes in patients with schizophrenia, yet it is unclear whether this is related to inflammation. We aim to address this question, by relating brain structural changes with the transcriptional profile of inflammation markers in the early stage of schizophrenia.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of image-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients exhibiting adrenal metastatic tumors (AMTs).

Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, and Wanfang databases were searched for relevant studies published as of November 2022, and study results were pooled for subsequent analysis. The endpoints of this meta-analysis included primary and secondary technical success, local hemorrhage, pneumothorax, hypertensive crisis, local recurrence, and 1- and 3-year overall survival (OS) rates.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compares two methods of locating lung nodules before surgery: CT-guided and bronchoscopic localization.
  • The analysis included data from 321 patients with CT-guided localization and 220 patients with bronchoscopic localization, finding similar technical success rates, but bronchoscopic methods resulted in fewer complications like pneumothorax and pulmonary hemorrhage.
  • Overall, while both methods have their benefits, bronchoscopic localization is safer, even though CT-guided procedures led to shorter surgery times.

  • TLIF is a surgical procedure for lumbar degenerative disease, with two common techniques being minimally invasive TLIF (MIS-TLIF) and percutaneous endoscopic TLIF (PE-TLIF).
  • A study analyzed 8 articles with a total of 487 patients to compare the safety and effectiveness of these two methods, finding that both provide similar improvements in leg pain and disability.
  • While MIS-TLIF has advantages in shorter operation time and less blood loss, PE-TLIF shows better outcomes for back pain relief and quicker postoperative recovery overall.

  • A study looked at how safe and effective a treatment called imaging-guided percutaneous ablation (PA) is for people with adrenal metastasis (AM), which is cancer that has spread to the adrenal glands.
  • The study included 15 different research articles and found that most patients had good success rates, with 88% successfully treated and 80% surviving for at least a year.
  • The results show that this treatment is generally safe and works well for patients, giving them good chances of living longer after the procedure.

Background: Recently, a new type of pulmonary nodule positioning needle has been adopted clinically. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new type of localization needles compared with coils for the simultaneous localization of multiple pulmonary nodules guided by computed tomography (CT) prior to video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

Materials And Methods: From January 2021 to March 2022, 87 pulmonary nodules from 40 patients were localized using the new localization needle.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluates the effectiveness of combining iodine-125 seed insertion (ISI) with trans-arterial infusion (TAI) in treating advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) through a meta-analysis of relevant research.
  • - Results showed that patients receiving the combined treatment had significantly better outcomes in terms of complete response rates, treatment success rates, and overall survival compared to those who only received TAI.
  • - The findings suggest that while ISI can improve the results of TAI in advanced lung cancer patients, it does not increase the risk of severe side effects.

As a non-invasive detection method and an advanced imaging method, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used in the research of schizophrenia. Although a large number of neuroimaging studies have confirmed that MRI can display abnormal brain phenotypes in patients with schizophrenia, no valid uniform standard has been established for its clinical application. On the basis of previous evidence, we argue that MRI is an important tool throughout the whole clinical course of schizophrenia.

Cognitive decline is the core schizophrenia symptom, which is now well accepted. Holding a role in various aspects of cognition, lentiform nucleus (putamen and globus pallidus) dysfunction contributes to the psychopathology of this disease. However, the effects of lentiform nucleus function on cognitive impairments in schizophrenia are yet to be investigated.
