Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is an acute brain dysfunction secondary to systemic infection, occurring without direct central nervous system involvement. Despite its clinical relevance, reliable biomarkers for diagnosing SAE and assessing its severity remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) MRI as a non-invasive molecular imaging technique for detecting metabolic alterations related to neuroinflammation in SAE.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematological malignancy. Patients with wild-type FLT3 relapsed or refractory (R/R) AML face significant therapeutic challenges due to the persistent lack of effective treatments. A comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying chemotherapy resistance is needed to the development of effective treatment strategies.

A 7-year-old neutered female Shih Tzu presented with bilateral skin lesions and a subcutaneous mass in the submandibular region. The initial lesion on the right appeared as a plaque, followed by the development of an ulcer on the opposite side 2-3 days later. Despite treatment with antibiotics, antifungal drugs and anti-inflammatory steroids, lesions persisted.

The potential negative impact of lymphatic dysfunction caused by head and neck cancer treatment remains underexplored. Emerging evidence suggests that waste clearance and fluidic balance in the brain are connected to the peripheral lymphatic system in the head and neck region, implying that lymphatic injury in this area could contribute to brain damage. This study aimed to investigate the pathological alterations in the brain induced by peripheral lymphatic dysfunction in the head and neck region using the lymphatic obstruction animal model.

Background: Seizures can cause as well as result from neuroinflammation. This study was performed to identify the hematologic inflammatory parameters (HIPs) and inflammatory mediators that change after a single seizure in a canine pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced seizure model.

Methods: Five healthy Beagle dogs were used in this study.

Background: Studies are currently being conducted on rabbits requiring serial glucose monitoring. The FreeStyle Libre 2 (FSL2), a serial glucose monitoring device, has been validated in humans, dogs and cats, but not in rabbits.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the FSL2 in rabbits.

Two spayed female mongrels were presented for an abdominal mass and metastasis examination. To investigate suspected ovarian tumours and metastasis, F-2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) was performed. F-FDG PET revealed mildly increased glucose uptake (maximum standardised uptake values, 2.

Article Synopsis
  • ACE inhibitors (ACEi) can worsen kidney function in dogs, so it's important to recheck renal function within 1-2 weeks after starting treatment.
  • A study analyzed 156 dogs on ACEi to identify risk factors for worsening renal function (WRF), finding that 17% experienced WRF, which was mostly mild to moderate.
  • The main risk factors for WRF were concurrent use of furosemide and pre-existing kidney issues (azotemia), highlighting the need for cautious use of ACEi in these cases.

Introduction: Small-field-of-view (SFOV) gamma cameras can offer higher sensitivities than conventional gamma cameras. However, there are currently no reports on the efficacy and safety of thyroid scintigraphy using SFOV gamma cameras in veterinary medicine. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and radiation safety of an SFOV gamma camera for feline thyroid scintigraphy.

A 13-year-old Maltese dog with an abdominal mass underwent 18F-FDG PET/computed tomography (CT) for tumor localization and metastatic evaluation. PET/CT scans revealed a gastric mass near the esophagogastric junction and demonstrated mean and maximum standardized uptake values (SUVs) of 4.596 and 6.

Background: Pharmacological inhibition of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) activation after ischemia alleviates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury.

Purpose: To investigate whether AhR antagonist administration after reperfusion was also effective in attenuating cerebral IR injury.

Material And Methods: A total of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the sham-operated group (no IR), control group (IR), and 6,2',4'-trimethoxyflavone (TMF) group (IR + TMF administration), with 10 rats assigned to each group.

Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is a highly contagious virus that affects cloven-hoofed animals and causes severe economic losses in the livestock industry. Given that this high-risk pathogen has to be handled in a biosafety level (BSL)-3 facility for safety reasons and the limited availability of BSL-3 laboratories, experiments on FMDV call for more attention. Therefore, we aimed to develop an FMDV experimental model that can be handled in BSL-2 laboratories.

A 6-year-old spayed female domestic short-hair cat was presented for primary complaints of anorexia and lethargy. The cat was being treated with cyclosporine (25 mg/cat, PO q24h) and prednisolone (1 mg/kg, PO q12h) for feline hypersensitivity dermatitis and inflammatory bowel disease for 1 year, wherein prednisolone was withdrawn 2 weeks prior to presentation. At presentation, dehydration, hyperglycaemia, ketonaemia, increased fructosamine, glucosuria, ketonuria and metabolic acidosis were observed.

Changes in neutrophil-to-lymphocite ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been identified in dogs with hypercortisolism (HC), but, no studies have investigated the changes in these inflammatory biomarkers as cost-effective and available parameters for the diagnosis and management of HC. This study was performed to evaluate whether NLR and PLR could be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment response in dogs with HC. This retrospective study included 67 dogs with HC, 58 dogs with non-adrenal illness (NAI), and 39 healthy dogs.
