Polygonatum sibiricum (PS) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb used as both food and medicinal material. PS is reportedly significantly effective in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinic. However, its pharmacological mechanism and endogenous antihyperglycemic markers remain unknown.

(R)-Gentiandiol and (S)-gentiandiol are metabolites of swertiamarin found in vivo. The antidiabetic activity of swertiamarin and its nitrogen-containing metabolites (R)-gentiandiol and (S)-gentiandiol was evaluated in this research, and their mechanism of action was investigated after evaluating the serum metabolic profile of KK/Upj-A type 2 mice.

(R)-gentiandiol and (S)-gentiandiol are the metabolites of swertiamarin in vivo. In this study, HBsAg, HBeAg and HBV-DNA were determined in liver tissue of HBV-transgenic C57BL/6NCrl mice to analyze anti-HBV activities of swertiamarin, (R)-gentiandiol and (S)-gentiandiol.

In addition, the mass detection sensitivity of the major metabolites, epinaucledal and naucledal, via UPLC-TOF-MS was significantly enhanced, and the epimer metabolites were distinctly discovered from plasma following gavage of sweroside in rats. The plasma concentration of epinaucledal and naucledal was quantified via UPLC-TOF-MS in negative mode using erythrocentaurin as the internal standard.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex reproductive endocrine disorder. And metabolic syndrome (MS) is an important bridge for PCOS patients to develop other diseases, such as diabetes and coronary heart disease. Our aim was to study the potential metabolic characteristics of PCOS-MS and identify sensitive biomarkers so as to provide targets for clinical screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

Recent explosion of biological data brings a great challenge for the traditional methods. With increasing scale of large data sets, much advanced tools are required for the depth interpretation problems. As a rapid-developing technology, metabolomics can provide a useful method to discover the pathogenesis of diseases.

In this work, an integrative strategy was established to discover the effective compounds and their therapeutic targets using Phellodendri Amurensis cortex (PAC) aimed at inhibiting prostate cancer as a case study. We found that PAC could be inhibited the growth of xenograft tumours of prostate cancer.

However, it lacks in-depth research of the constituents of Zi Shen Wan in vivo and in vitro. In this work, ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry and MassLynx software was established to characterize the chemical compositions of Zi Shen Wan in vivo and in vitro.
