Background: We used structural equation modelling to analyze the effect of caregiver anxiety on medication adherence and the mediating effect of medication beliefs in children with epilepsy in China.

Methods: Convenience sampling was used to continuously select children with epilepsy who met the inclusion criteria from January 2021 to June 2024. We generated a theoretical model of the interactions between medication beliefs, anxiety, and medication adherence.

Background: Although immunoglobulin (Ig) alleles play a pivotal role in the antibody response to pathogens, research to understand their role in the humoral immune response is still limited.

Methods: We retrieved the germline sequences for the IGHV from the IMGT database to illustrate the amino acid polymorphism present within germline sequences of IGHV genes. We aassembled the sequences of IgM and IgD repertoire from 130 people to investigate the genetic variations in the population.

Purpose: Based on the protection motivation theory (PMT), which is an extension of the health belief model that takes the "reward" brought by behavior in the long-term process as a consideration factor and considering the influence of environmental and social factors on behavior patterns, this cross-sectional study evaluated medication adherence among children with epilepsy using structural equation modeling.

Methods: Children with epilepsy from pediatric neurology clinics were consecutively sampled at West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University from July 2021 to January 2024. According to PMT, we designed the 23-item questionnaire, which included seven factors, namely severity, susceptibility, external return, internal returns, self-efficacy, reaction efficiency, and reaction cost.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study highlights that intranasal vaccination with a specific adenovirus vector can enhance protective nasal immunity (sIgA) against the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, especially in individuals previously vaccinated with the original vaccine.
  • - Results showed that nasal sIgA is considerably more effective than serum antibodies in binding to and neutralizing Omicron subvariants, remaining potent against emerging strains like XBB and BA.2.86.
  • - The findings suggest that intranasal vaccines could be crucial in creating a rapid and robust immune response in the upper respiratory tract, serving as a frontline defense against evolving variants of the virus.

Chicken feathers represent a viable material for producing biochar adsorbents. Traditional slow pyrolysis methods often result in sulfur element losses from chicken feathers, whereas hydrothermal reactions generate substantial amounts of nutrient-rich hydrothermal liquor. Magnesium-modified high-sulfur hydrochar MWF was synthesized through magnesium modification, achieving a S content of 3.

We investigate the microscopic hyperspectral reconstruction from RGB images with a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) in this paper. Based on the microscopic hyperspectral imaging system, a homemade dataset consisted of microscopic hyperspectral and RGB image pairs is constructed. For considering the importance of spectral correlation between neighbor spectral bands in microscopic hyperspectrum reconstruction, the 2D convolution is replaced by 3D convolution in the DCNN framework, and a metric (weight factor) used to evaluate the performance reconstructed hyperspectrum is also introduced into the loss function used in training.

Article Synopsis
  • Neutralizing antibodies play a crucial role in protecting against SARS-CoV-2, but current methods can't track specific antibodies in the immune response.
  • Researchers developed an antibodyomics pipeline that combines high-throughput sequencing and analysis to identify and map spike-specific neutralizing antibodies and their lineages.
  • The study found that while many antibodies can target various epitope sites on the spike protein, only a few persist long-term, suggesting a need for more effective vaccine designs based on these findings.

Zika virus (ZIKV) infection during pregnancy has been linked to congenital abnormalities, such as microcephaly in infants. An efficacious vaccine is desirable for preventing the potential recurrence of ZIKV epidemic. Here, we report the generation of an attenuated ZIKV (rGZ02a) that has sharply decreased virulence in mice but grows to high titers in Vero cells, a widely approved cell line for manufacturing human vaccines.

Recombinant influenza A viral (IAV) vectors are potential to stimulate systemic and mucosal immunity, but the packaging capacity is limited and only one or a few epitopes can be carried. Here, we report the generation of a replication-competent IAV vector that carries a full-length HIV-1 gene linked to the 5'-terminal coding region of the neuraminidase segment via a protease cleavage sequence (IAV-p24). IAV-p24 was successfully rescued and stably propagated, and P24 protein was efficiently expressed in infected mammalian cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Zika virus infection during pregnancy can lead to serious congenital defects, including fetal microcephaly, and monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) targeting the nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) offer a potential way to mitigate this risk without worsening the disease.
  • Two specific MAbs, 3G2 and 4B8, have been found to effectively inhibit Zika virus infection in neonatal mice through different mechanisms, utilizing both antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and other pathways that don’t involve Fcγ receptors.
  • The study highlights the importance of the specific regions of the NS1 protein that the MAbs target, indicating that an MAb's protective capabilities may depend on its epito
