Background: Children from tribal regions in remote geographic locations face several health-related challenges that often remain unnoticed due to a lack of reporting. Untreated dental caries is one such problem with inadequate data from the Himalayan region of Ladakh in north India. This may portray a wrong picture to the policymakers and hence, inadequate efforts to mitigate oral health issues.

Background/aims: Re-bonding of a fractured fragment without any preparations or reinforcement has been recommended as the preferred treatment of uncomplicated crown fractures. A recent systematic review found that post-bonding reinforcements could reduce the risk of loss of attached fragments in teeth with uncomplicated and complicated crown fractures. Hence, this study aimed to compare various techniques of reinforcement in terms of the force required to fracture, using bovine incisor models with simulated uncomplicated crown fractures.

Objective: Thermal pulp sensibility tests are critical, cost-effective tools for assessing pulp vitality and guiding disease prognosis. However, their accuracy and efficacy are often compromised by subjective patient responses and operator variability. This study evaluated operator-associated variability for the performance of hot and cold pulp sensibility tests using a custom-designed testing apparatus.

Background: Mandible is the second most common bone involved among pediatric facial fractures, and the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) technique used for its management results in faster bone remodeling and quicker functional recovery. However, it can lead to damage to the periosteum and surrounding tooth buds, and may require a second surgery for removal. Therefore, conservative methods always remain mainstay for management among pediatric patients.

Background/aims: This update of previously conducted evidence mapping and quality analysis of systematic reviews related to dental traumatology aimed to assess the distribution of systematic reviews published in a period of past 54 months in various domains and subdomains and evaluate their quality. An attempt was also made to compare the trends of methodological and quality characteristics between the two Evidence Mapping studies.

Methods: An a priori protocol was prepared as per the recommendations of Global Evidence Mapping and registered in Open Science Framework.

Background: This study investigates the etiology, outcomes, and genotype-phenotype correlations in patients with renal tubular acidosis (RTA) at a tertiary care center in New Delhi.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included children and young adults with RTA who underwent clinical, biochemical, radiological and/or genetic evaluations between July 2020 and December 2024. We report clinical phenotype, anthropometry, metabolic control and progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in relation to genotype of distal RTA.

Objectives: To compare the success of glass ionomer cement (GIC) restorations in carious primary molars using single-visit and two-visit silver modified atraumatic restorative technique (SMART).

Methods: This was a parallel-group, two-arm randomized controlled trial conducted in a tertiary-care hospital. 150 children aged 4-9 years with asymptomatic carious lesions were recruited and randomized to one of the two interventions: single-visit and two-visit SMART.

Background/aim: An injury sustained during sports activity can lead to the development of reinjury anxiety and hamper performance. Although tools exist to assess re-injury anxiety, a domain of interest in the field of sports medicine, research in the psychological impact of an orofacial injury is rudimentary. The present study envisaged to develop an instrument to assess the presence of reinjury anxiety following orofacial and dental injury in boxers aged between 10 and 16 years.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of the International Caries Classification and Management System (ICCMS) protocol in a hospital-based setting in India.

Methods: A total of 160 children, 3-6 years old children reporting with dental caries to a hospital-based setting were recruited. Risk-based management of dental caries was conducted and followed for one year as per the modified ICCMS protocol.

Background/aim: Traumatic Dental Injuries (TDIs) are an emerging public health problem and a realm of research for oral health enthusiasts. Certain populations can be more vulnerable to injuries such as those with a sensory deficit. Nevertheless, literature is scarce, especially for those with hearing impairment.

Background/aim: The evidence related to the superiority of the recommended treatment protocols for necrotic immature permanent teeth is unclear. We aimed to compare the clinical, radiographic, and overall success rates of apexification and regenerative endodontic treatment (RET), assess the methodological quality, and assess the strength of evidence for outcomes.

Methods: A search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to clarify and standardize the varying terminologies used for the time between tooth avulsion and replantation, recognizing that differences in terms could affect prognosis.
  • - A thorough review identified 92 studies, categorizing terminology into five groups, with most accurate explanations linked to those discussing the total time of dry and wet conditions surrounding the tooth.
  • - The expert consensus, reached through a Delphi study, strongly supported the term "total extra-alveolar period," which effectively describes both the nonphysiologic and physiologic conditions affecting tooth prognosis after avulsion.

Objective: Tooth bleaching procedures on nonvital teeth have been performed for crown discoloration caused by regenerative endodontic therapy (RET). However, leakage of bleaching agents across the root canal can be detrimental. This study aimed to assess and compare the penetration levels of hydrogen peroxide (HP) from different bleaching agents across calcium silicate-based coronal barriers in immature permanent teeth.

Background: Uncomplicated crown fractures of maxillary anterior teeth are common dental injuries, and the bonding of fractured fragments is recommended for management. Rehydration of fragments improves bonding and fracture resistance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the reattached tooth fragment of the incisor crown after rehydration using either a steamer or a humidifier.

Purpose: The idea of psychological ownership (PO) has been utilized in a variety of contexts, but the significance and lessons learned from using PO in dental clinical education have not been investigated. A detailed long-term study of PO in dental clinical education will allow us to understand the effectiveness of this practice. The purpose of this paper is to compare undergraduate (UG) student's clinical performance before and after the PO system was implemented.

Early childhood caries is a major public health issue in India. The primary reason for poor oral health in children is a lack of awareness about the role of primary teeth and the importance of an early dental visit for infants and toddlers. The primary objectives of an early dental visit are to analyze the child's risk level, provide guidance to parents regarding proper oral hygiene measures, review dietary and eating habits, provide information regarding the infectivity of dental caries, review the risks of traumatic injuries and discuss factors which affect the development of occlusion.
