Background/aims: Re-bonding of a fractured fragment without any preparations or reinforcement has been recommended as the preferred treatment of uncomplicated crown fractures. A recent systematic review found that post-bonding reinforcements could reduce the risk of loss of attached fragments in teeth with uncomplicated and complicated crown fractures. Hence, this study aimed to compare various techniques of reinforcement in terms of the force required to fracture, using bovine incisor models with simulated uncomplicated crown fractures.

Objective: Thermal pulp sensibility tests are critical, cost-effective tools for assessing pulp vitality and guiding disease prognosis. However, their accuracy and efficacy are often compromised by subjective patient responses and operator variability. This study evaluated operator-associated variability for the performance of hot and cold pulp sensibility tests using a custom-designed testing apparatus.

Background: Mandible is the second most common bone involved among pediatric facial fractures, and the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) technique used for its management results in faster bone remodeling and quicker functional recovery. However, it can lead to damage to the periosteum and surrounding tooth buds, and may require a second surgery for removal. Therefore, conservative methods always remain mainstay for management among pediatric patients.

Background/aims: Preformed zirconia crowns have emerged as the preferred choice for restoring damaged primary incisors. However, they differ from natural teeth in their biophysical properties and can potentially alter the overall response of crowned teeth to a traumatic load. This in silico study aimed to compare the response of three different traumatic loading conditions for the (i) natural (M1) and (ii) zirconia-restored tooth models (M2) models.

Radicular cysts are one of the most common cysts of inflammatory origin involving the maxillofacial region that arise from the remnants of Herwig's epithelial root sheath. These are often diagnosed as incidental findings on radiographs, which are seldom symptomatic and are slowly progressive. Decompression could be used as a conservative treatment approach for the management of large radicular cysts in children to have satisfactory healing and minimum damage to adjacent vital structures, simultaneously allowing the eruption of succedaneous tooth.

Background/aim: An injury sustained during sports activity can lead to the development of reinjury anxiety and hamper performance. Although tools exist to assess re-injury anxiety, a domain of interest in the field of sports medicine, research in the psychological impact of an orofacial injury is rudimentary. The present study envisaged to develop an instrument to assess the presence of reinjury anxiety following orofacial and dental injury in boxers aged between 10 and 16 years.

Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a group of disorders in which there is an alteration in acid-base homeostasis because of the impairment of nephrons to excrete hydrogen ions or reabsorb bicarbonate ions, resulting in chronic metabolic acidosis. RTA is an important cause of rickets, particularly 'resistant rickets'. Dental manifestations frequently reported in patients with RTA include enamel hypoplasia and amelogenesis imperfecta, affecting permanent dentition.

Background/aim: The evidence related to the superiority of the recommended treatment protocols for necrotic immature permanent teeth is unclear. We aimed to compare the clinical, radiographic, and overall success rates of apexification and regenerative endodontic treatment (RET), assess the methodological quality, and assess the strength of evidence for outcomes.

Methods: A search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to clarify and standardize the varying terminologies used for the time between tooth avulsion and replantation, recognizing that differences in terms could affect prognosis.
  • - A thorough review identified 92 studies, categorizing terminology into five groups, with most accurate explanations linked to those discussing the total time of dry and wet conditions surrounding the tooth.
  • - The expert consensus, reached through a Delphi study, strongly supported the term "total extra-alveolar period," which effectively describes both the nonphysiologic and physiologic conditions affecting tooth prognosis after avulsion.

Objective: Tooth bleaching procedures on nonvital teeth have been performed for crown discoloration caused by regenerative endodontic therapy (RET). However, leakage of bleaching agents across the root canal can be detrimental. This study aimed to assess and compare the penetration levels of hydrogen peroxide (HP) from different bleaching agents across calcium silicate-based coronal barriers in immature permanent teeth.

The follow-up of teeth that have undergone regenerative endodontic procedures through radiographic imaging is crucial for evaluating their success and determining their future prognosis. The periapical radiographs stand out as the primary tool for this task and are also recommended by the existing guidelines. However, two-dimensional (2D) imaging may not reveal the findings accurately, mimicking the root formation success which may not be true otherwise when assessed using cone beam CT (CBCT) imaging.

Article Synopsis
  • A doctors' report talks about a rare condition called pyogenic granuloma, a type of harmless growth usually found on the skin or mouth.
  • This growth often looks like a bump that can bleed easily and can grow quickly, and in this case, it appeared in a young girl.
  • Even though it looked like other mouth problems at first, doctors used special tests to identify it correctly as lobular capillary haemangioma.
