A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a frequent incidental finding during echocardiography in otherwise healthy children. In most healthy children with a diagnosis of isolated incidental PFO, no further follow-up or intervention is necessary. In some children, PFO is associated with certain clinical syndromes such as cryptogenic stroke, decompression sickness, migraine, and platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome.

Background: Neurodevelopmental abnormalities are common in congenital heart disease (CHD), more so in cyanotic CHDs. Perioperative factors have been known to affect neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Aim: We aimed to determine the neurodevelopmental outcomes following open-heart surgery in cyanotic CHD.

Background: Many patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) have valvular heart disease requiring surgery. The optimal prosthetic valve is not established in this population. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess outcomes of patients with dialysis-dependent ESKD who received mechanical or bioprosthetic valves.

Purpose: PD-L1 expression on tumor cells (TC) is associated with response to anti-PD-1-based therapies in some tumor types, but its significance in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is uncertain. We leveraged tumor heterogeneity to identify molecular correlates of TC PD-L1 expression in ccRCC and assessed their role in predicting response to anti-PD-1 monotherapy.

Experimental Design: RNA sequencing was performed on paired TC PD-L1 positive and negative areas isolated from eight ccRCC tumors and transcriptomic features associated with PD-L1 status were identified.

Introduction: Neurodegenerative disorders are a diverse variety of diseases that can be distinguished from developing degeneration of neurons in the CNS. Several alkaloids have shown mounting effects in neurodegenerative disorders, and berberine is one of them. Demethyleneberberine is a metabolite of berberine that has better blood-brain barrier crossing capacity.

Digitalization of operative procedures through three-dimensional (3D) navigation is a remarkable advancement in the field of dentistry which allows both precision and accuracy while treating patients. It is an emerging technology with a wide variety of applications in dentistry. In the field of endodontics, these computer-aided 3D systems are being used for accessing and localizing canals in calcified teeth, removal of fiberglass posts, and in peri-apical surgeries etc.

Additive manufacturing (AM) of biomedical alloys such as Co-Cr-Mo alloys holds immense potential for fabricating implants with complex geometry and tailored to meet patient-specific needs. However, layer-by-layer fabrication in AM processes results in undesired anisotropy due to the solidification texture and grain morphology. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of build orientation on the mechanical properties and functional performance, including tribocorrosion behavior and cytocompatibility of an orthopedic Co-28Cr-6Mo alloy manufactured by selective laser melting.

When diabetes neuropathy occurs, the oxidative stress caused by chronic hyperglycemia may result in chronic neuronal damage. To mitigate the effects of hyperglycemia-induced neuronal damage, it may be beneficial to address oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. The current study evaluated the neuroprotective efficacy of Thuja occidentalis in streptozotocin (STZ)-nicotinamide (NAD)-induced diabetic neuropathy in male Wistar rats.

Article Synopsis
  • - The CheckMate 214 trial showed that combining nivolumab and ipilimumab is more effective than sunitinib as a first-line treatment for advanced clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC), but there’s a need to figure out which patients will benefit most from this combo treatment.
  • - Researchers explored various biomarkers, including proteins and genetic signatures, but found that those previously linked to other treatments did not predict survival outcomes for patients using nivolumab plus ipilimumab.
  • - The study identified a link between tumor inflammation and better progression-free survival, suggesting that understanding the tumor's inflammatory environment could lead to improved strategies for personalized treatment in RCC patients.

Mycobacteria are members of the Actinomycetales order, and they are classified into one family, Mycobacteriaceae. More than 20 mycobacterial species cause disease in humans. The Mycobacterium group, called the complex (MTBC), has nine closely related species that cause tuberculosis in animals and humans.

Background: Young age in osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) demands bone-preserving, short-stem arthroplasty. Several designs including neck-preserving stems and neck-resecting, shortened, standard stems are classified as short stems. There is a paucity of literature investigating risk factors and outcomes of intraoperative complications of neck preserving, short-stem arthroplasty in ONFH.

Fisetin (FS) is a bioactive flavonoid obtained mostly from apple and strawberry and classified under the category of food supplements due to numerous pharmacological effects against various diseases through multiple mechanistic pathways. It acts as excellent neuroprotective, cardioprotective, anti-invasive, anti-tumorigenic, anti-angiogenic, anticancer, antidiabetics, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent. Despite having excellent safety and efficacy profile, FS is very less explored to clinical research either as food supplement or, as therapeutic agent due to its poor aqueous solubility, low bioavailability and reduced blood brain barrier permeability.

Background: Over the course of time, new developments associated with the embryogenesis of the murine heart have served to clarify the developmental processes observed in the human heart. This evidence allows for the creation of a developmental framework for many congenital cardiac defects.

Aims: We aim to solidify the framework related to the categorization of both solitary and multiple ventricular septal defects.
