Objective: To report the feasibility and safety of percutaneous device closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm neonates from a tertiary center in Northern India.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of the clinical profile, nature of device used, and outcomes of inborn preterm neonates who underwent percutaneous device closure of PDA was conducted. The intervention was performed by experienced pediatric cardiologists using a transvenous approach under fluoroscopic guidance.
Escherichia coli L-asparaginase (EcA), a key component of a multi-drug acute lymphatic leukemia (ALL) treatment regimen, has several limitations that reduce its therapeutic efficacy. The major disadvantages include immunogenicity, serum instability, shorter half-life, and accompanying glutaminase activity that causes neurotoxicity and pancreatitis. Pegylated asparaginase and Erwinase have better therapeutic potential, but they are expensive.

A comprehensive search across multiple databases was conducted to identify systematic reviews published up to 21 November 2024, with no language restrictions. Methodological quality was assessed using the AMSTAR-2 tool, and primary study overlap using corrected covered area (CCA) metrics.

Purpose: Three-dimensional (3D) technology is rapidly emerging as a valuable tool in the medical and healthcare industry, particularly for performing corrective osteotomies in upper limb extremities. This study involved patients with impaired upper limb function who underwent corrective osteotomies using a computer-assisted 3D surgical planning process with 3D-printed, patient-specific plates. The biomechanical performance of these 3D-printed, patient-specific plates was enhanced while maintaining crucial properties such as corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, ensuring their safety for clinical application in humans.

Although maternal autoantibodies are implicated in the causation, the exact mechanism, significance, and management are not fully understood. In this report, we describe dilated ascending aorta in two neonates with congenital CHB and their short-term follow-up results.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) pose a serious challenge to global public health, compounded by unhealthy nutrition and obesogenic environments. This science and society article emphasizes several evidence-based behavior-change strategies, policy interventions, and meaningful youth engagement to promote healthy nutrition choices among children and adolescents.

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery (ALCAPA) from the pulmonary artery is a rare congenital anomaly with coronary steal and myocardial ischemia. The left ventricular dilatation leads to mitral regurgitation causing left atrial enlargement. We report a rare case of giant left atrium in an infant with ALCAPA-mediated secondary mitral regurgitation, which has been hitherto unreported.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Patients with obstructed infra-cardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) require urgent intervention to relieve the obstruction, with or without restoration of anatomical continuity between the pulmonary veins and the left atrium. In cases of infra-cardiac TAPVC draining into the inferior vena cava (IVC) or hepatic vein, the obstructed channel can be accessed via the systemic venous approach for endovascular palliation. However, in cases of infra-cardiac TAPVC draining into the portal venous system, an endovascular approach to the obstructed channel is not possible via the transfemoral route and may require direct percutaneous puncture of the splenoportal axis.

Little information is available from low-resource environments where the majority of children with CHD are born. Several challenges in the CHD care continuum exist in such environments.

Kawasaki disease, traditionally classified as medium vessel vasculitis, is known for the preferential involvement of coronary arteries. Infrequently, large systemic arteries might be involved and may affect the prognosis. Here, we present an infant with Kawasaki disease who had extensive involvement of large vessels such as the abdominal aorta and medium vessels of the extremities, along with giant coronary artery aneurysms.

Unlabelled: In congenital heart surgery, redo-sternotomies are very common. In most cases, sternal re-entry is achieved without serious complications. However, sometimes elective institution of peripheral cardiopulmonary bypass is needed for safe sternotomy, albeit with a long cardio-pulmonary bypass time.

However, the feasibility of TPVI is limited by the high cost and nonavailability of larger-sized valves for dilated native RVOT of rTOF patients. We report the first successful TPVI with a custom-made 35 mm balloon-expandable valve (Myval™) in a 30-year-old rTOF patient with severe pulmonary regurgitation and RV dysfunction.
