The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effects of prolonged heroin exposure on adult male rats. Our findings demonstrate that this intervention induces deficits in memory, synaptic plasticity, emotional regulation, and motor function. These impairments appear to be associated with reduced levels of BDNF, increased expression of REST/NRSF, and elevated astrocyte activity within the hippocampus.

Methamphetamine (METH) harms nerve and glial cells in both animals and humans, impacting cognitive functions and leading to research on cognitive impairments in exposed animals. Elderberry (EB) contains numerous bioactive compounds and demonstrates various health benefits, which can be valuable for maximizing its use in the food industry. In the present study, we focused on the probable protective effects of EB on the devastating impacts of METH in the hippocampus, one of the critical areas in memory and cognition.

Pain relievers such as tramadol are among the most commonly prescribed around the world. However, Long-term tramadol use has been shown to cause neurotoxicity, neuroinflammation, and cognitive impairment, which has limited its clinical use. Elderberry (EB), a plant extract widely recognized for its medicinal properties, is used in this study to investigate the effects of a plant-based diet on tramadol's adverse effects in the hippocampus region.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that significantly affects the quality of life of patients. In this study, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of dental pulp stem cell (DPSC) transplantation in decreasing inflammation and cell death in brain cells, thus reducing seizure damage. We induced seizures in rats using intraperitoneal injections of pentylenetetrazole (PTZ).

Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary condition characterized by the gradual deterioration of nerve cells in the striatum. Recent scientific investigations have revealed the promising potential of Extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a therapy to mitigate inflammation and enhance motor function. This study aimed to examine the impact of administering EVs derived from human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) on the motor abilities and inflammation levels in a rat model of HD.

  • * LDX-treated rats showed impaired memory performance in various tests and exhibited changes in brain activity, with an increase in field excitatory postsynaptic potential and elevated caspase-3 levels, indicating potential cell death.
  • * The study found significant increases in immune cells (microglia and astrocytes) in the hippocampus, along with changes in cell structure, pointing to harmful effects of LDX on this vital area of the brain related to memory; more research is required to fully understand

Article Synopsis
  • Concerns about lisdexamfetamine (LDX), a drug for ADHD, include potential irreversible brain damage and impacts on the neuroendocrine system during development.
  • A study on adult male rats found that LDX treatment resulted in decreased sperm motility, increased DNA fragmentation, and significantly lower testosterone levels.
  • The study suggests prolonged LDX use may lead to poor sperm quality and harmful changes in testicular tissue, but further research is needed, especially in humans using LDX long-term.

  • The study investigated how 10 mg/kg of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) affects brain cells in the cerebellum of male Wistar rats using various histological techniques.
  • THC treatment resulted in a significant decrease in Purkinje neuron numbers and granular layer thickness, along with signs of inflammation and changes in microglial and astrocyte morphology.
  • The findings suggest that THC may have both neuroprotective and neurodegenerative effects, indicating the need for further research in this area.

This study evaluates whether elderberry (EB) effectively decreases the inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain cells to reduce Aβ toxicity. In the Aβ + EB group, EB powder was added to rats' routine diet for eight consecutive weeks. Then, spatial memory, working memory, and long-term memory, were measured using the Morris water maze, T-maze, and passive avoidance test.

3-acetylpyridine (3-AP) is a neurotoxin that is known to mainly affect the inferior olivary nucleus (ION) in the brain stem. Although several studies have explored the effect of this neurotoxin, still further investigation is required to understand the impact of this toxin on different parts of the brain. In this research, two groups of rats were studied, the 3-AP-treated and the control groups.

The present study was designed to evaluate whether elderberry (EB) effectively reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in hippocampal cells to modify seizure damage. Seizure was induced in rats by the injection of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ). In the Seizure + EB group, EB powder was added to the rats' routine diet for eight consecutive weeks.

Epidemiological studies have documented that exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) could affect neurodevelopment, thereby leading to autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Nevertheless, there is little laboratory data to support this epidemiological evidence. In the current study, we carried out a series of experiments to assess whether developmental exposures to different extracts of PM can result in ASD-like behavioral, biochemical, and immunohistochemical characteristics in male rat offspring.

Article Synopsis
  • - Epilepsy makes life tough for patients, so scientists want to find better treatments to help control it.
  • - Researchers are testing special cells called Sertoli cells (SCs) to see if they can protect brain cells from damage caused by seizures in rats.
  • - The results showed that injecting SCs helped reduce brain cell damage and increased the number of healthy brain cells, suggesting that SCs could be a good way to help with epilepsy.

Background: The choroid plexus (CP) is the principal source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It can produce and release a wide range of materials, including growth and neurotrophic factors which have a crucial role in the maintenance and proper functioning of the brain. Tramadol is a synthetic analog of codeine, mainly prescribed to alleviate mild to moderate pains.

  • Approximately 40-50% of infertility cases are linked to male infertility, especially due to a condition called azoospermia, where no sperm is present in the semen.
  • This study investigated whether elderberry could help improve sperm production in a mouse model of azoospermia that had been induced by busulfan, a chemotherapy drug.
  • The results suggest that incorporating elderberry into the diet could potentially help enhance sperm production and repair testicular damage caused by chemotherapy, but further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness.
