The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effects of prolonged heroin exposure on adult male rats. Our findings demonstrate that this intervention induces deficits in memory, synaptic plasticity, emotional regulation, and motor function. These impairments appear to be associated with reduced levels of BDNF, increased expression of REST/NRSF, and elevated astrocyte activity within the hippocampus.

Methamphetamine (METH) harms nerve and glial cells in both animals and humans, impacting cognitive functions and leading to research on cognitive impairments in exposed animals. Elderberry (EB) contains numerous bioactive compounds and demonstrates various health benefits, which can be valuable for maximizing its use in the food industry. In the present study, we focused on the probable protective effects of EB on the devastating impacts of METH in the hippocampus, one of the critical areas in memory and cognition.

However, Long-term tramadol use has been shown to cause neurotoxicity, neuroinflammation, and cognitive impairment, which has limited its clinical use. Elderberry (EB), a plant extract widely recognized for its medicinal properties, is used in this study to investigate the effects of a plant-based diet on tramadol's adverse effects in the hippocampus region.

These deleterious impacts include a temporary drop in the relative weight of the testis along with adverse effects on spermatogenesis. Sambucus nigra, also known as elderberry (EB) or sweet elder, is a source of bioactive compounds that has drawn growing attention for its potential beneficial impact in preventing and treating several diseases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA zoonotic disease called brucellosis can cause flu-like symptoms and heart inflammation. The bacteria responsible for this disease can also enter the brain, causing a condition called neurobrucellosis that can result in long-term neurological problems. In this study, researchers aimed to determine the changes in the hippocampal cells of rats infected with Brucella.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that significantly affects the quality of life of patients. In this study, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of dental pulp stem cell (DPSC) transplantation in decreasing inflammation and cell death in brain cells, thus reducing seizure damage. We induced seizures in rats using intraperitoneal injections of pentylenetetrazole (PTZ).

Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary condition characterized by the gradual deterioration of nerve cells in the striatum. Recent scientific investigations have revealed the promising potential of Extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a therapy to mitigate inflammation and enhance motor function. This study aimed to examine the impact of administering EVs derived from human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) on the motor abilities and inflammation levels in a rat model of HD.

In the Aβ + EB group, EB powder was added to rats' routine diet for eight consecutive weeks. Then, spatial memory, working memory, and long-term memory, were measured using the Morris water maze, T-maze, and passive avoidance test.

Although several studies have explored the effect of this neurotoxin, still further investigation is required to understand the impact of this toxin on different parts of the brain. In this research, two groups of rats were studied, the 3-AP-treated and the control groups.

The present study was designed to evaluate whether elderberry (EB) effectively reduces inflammation and oxidative stress in hippocampal cells to modify seizure damage. Seizure was induced in rats by the injection of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ). In the Seizure + EB group, EB powder was added to the rats' routine diet for eight consecutive weeks.

Epidemiological studies have documented that exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) could affect neurodevelopment, thereby leading to autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Nevertheless, there is little laboratory data to support this epidemiological evidence. In the current study, we carried out a series of experiments to assess whether developmental exposures to different extracts of PM can result in ASD-like behavioral, biochemical, and immunohistochemical characteristics in male rat offspring.

It can produce and release a wide range of materials, including growth and neurotrophic factors which have a crucial role in the maintenance and proper functioning of the brain. Tramadol is a synthetic analog of codeine, mainly prescribed to alleviate mild to moderate pains.

This experimental research aimed to shed light on the potential therapeutic application of elderberry (EB), which can work on the axis and get better the IBS symptoms. There were three groups (36 Sprague-Dawley rats) in this experiment, including control, IBS, and IBS with EB diet (IBS + EB).

Reports have emerged on the sudden opioid-induced auditory hearing loss, and the underlying pathology is not fully understood. The present study aimed to determine the mechanism of action of these drugs in the inner ear. For this purpose, 20 rats were treated with 50 mg/kg tramadol daily for three weeks.

In the present study we used hippocampal tissue samples extracted from people who died after COVID-19. Utilizing histological techniques to analyze glial and neuronal cells we illuminated a massive degeneration of neuronal cells and changes in glial cells morphology in hippocampal samples.
