Background: Foodborne infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes are increasing. Chemical antimicrobials are the primary control measure in the food industry; however, prolonged use of these agents may pose health risks, highlighting the need for natural antimicrobial alternatives. Perilla essential oil (PEO) has shown potential as a natural antibacterial agent but its efficacy against L.

Background: Lotus seed protein, as a plant protein, has high nutritional and functional value but limited gelation ability. So, the structure and gelation properties of lotus seed protein gel (LSPG) treated using ultrasound were investigated. Structural properties were analyzed through surface hydrophobicity, free sulfhydryl groups, electrophoresis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and intermolecular forces.

Low concentration (10 %) peanut protein isolate (PPI) could not form an ideal gel structure. However, phosphorylation is a convenient and cost-effective method to enhance gelation properties of proteins. Therefore, this paper aimed to improve gelation properties of low concentration PPI using sodium tripolyphosphate (STP).

Background: Stroke is a major global health challenge that significantly influences public health. In stroke rehabilitation, brain-computer interfaces (BCI) offer distinct advantages over traditional training programs, including improved motor recovery and greater neuroplasticity. Here, we provide a first re-evaluation of systematic reviews and meta-analyses to further explore the safety and clinical efficacy of BCI in stroke rehabilitation.

. Among cleaners, lower back pain (LBP) and neck/shoulder pain (NSP) are prevalent musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Despite their high occurrence, the underlying causes of LBP and NSP in this population remain largely unknown, suggesting a multifactorial aetiology.

Central nervous system (CNS)-related diseases have a high mortality rate, are a serious threat to physical and mental health, and have always been an important area of research. Gastrodin, the main active metabolite of Gastrodia elata Blume, used in Chinese medicine and food, has a wide range of pharmacological effects, mostly related to CNS disorders. This review aims to systematically summarize and discuss the effects and underlying mechanisms of gastrodin in the treatment of CNS diseases, and to assess its potential for further development as a lead drug in both biomedicine and traditional Chinese medicine.

Cancer is a serious global public health issue, and a great deal of research has been made to treat cancer. Of these, discovery of promising compounds that effectively fight cancer always has been the main point of interest in pharmaceutical research. Carnosic acid (CA) is a phenolic diterpenoid compound widely present in Lamiaceae plants such as Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.

While chronic forearm pain is a common and debilitating condition among cleaners, the most physically demanding tasks remain unidentified. The present field study examines forearm muscle activity during 9 common cleaning tasks in a real working environment. Seven healthy cleaners participated in this study (age: 35.

This study delved into the effects of l-lysine (Lys) and l-arginine (Arg) on the gel properties and intermolecular interactions of low-salt (NaCl, 1 g/100 g) mixed shrimp surimi (Antarctic krill and Pacific white shrimp). The addition of Lys and Arg improved the gel strength and water holding capacity of low-salt gels, which were superior to the properties of STPP and high-salt (NaCl, 2.25 g/100 g) gels.

Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) has been the leading cause of infections in newborns. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of GBS in pregnant women is a deterministic strategy to prevent newborn infection. Conventional detection methods based on nucleic acid amplification assay have been applied in GBS diagnosis in central laboratories, with demonstrated high sensitivity.

Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a type of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that poses a serious threat to the health of both mother and fetus. Inhibition of the inflammatory environment on trophoblast cells is of great significance to improve PE. Apelin-36 is an endogenous active peptide with strong anti-inflammatory activity.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed that greater neck flexion leads to increased muscle stiffness, and relaxed upper back positions have higher stiffness compared to an upright posture.
  • * The non-dominant side trapezius muscles were found to be stiffer than those on the dominant side, suggesting that poor posture can lead to tension and discomfort in the neck and shoulders.

Background: There is an urgent need to identify potential targets in anticancer therapy to improve the survival and prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer (OC). Herein, we investigated the functional significance of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 14 (CXCL14) in OC cell growth and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Methods: qRT PCR and western blotting was used to detect CXCL14 mRNA level and protein expression, respectively.

Sea surface temperatures (SSTs) strongly influence atmospheric circulation and the Earth's climate, which in turn significantly affects vegetation productivity. Most of the previous studies on the subject have focused on links between the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and vegetation productivity, but few studies have addressed the effects of West Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) on that although the early stages of the ENSO phenomenon may first develop there. In this paper, we use the mean SST values in the WPWP to construct a climate index, known as the WPWP index (WPI), and study the impacts of the WPWP on global vegetation productivity.

Effects of glycinin basic polypeptide (GBP) on sensory and physicochemical properties of pork during chilled storage were investigated. Pork treated with GBP was analyzed periodically for sensory properties, pH, total volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N), α-thiobarbituric acid (TBA), and total viable count (TVC) values. Compared with controls, TBA values of pork treated with GBP did not change.
