Background: Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) has been extensively treated clinically using percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA), which includes percutaneous kyphoplasty and percutaneous vertebroplasty. Postoperative refracture is a common complication after PVA, but the associated factors and specific mechanisms behind these fractures are not entirely clear.
Questions/purposes: In a systematic review and meta-analysis, we asked: What factors were associated with increased or decreased odds of refracture after PVA for OVCF?
Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive search of the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase for the time period from database inception to August 31, 2024 (which also was when we last searched).

Time-of-death extrapolation has always been one of the most important issues in forensic practice. For a complicated case in which a corpse is destroyed with little evidence, judging the time of death of the deceased is a major challenge, which also enables criminals to escape legal sanctions. To find a method to roughly judge the time of death of a corpse with only a small amount of skin tissue, in this study, we established an early death model by using mice; furthermore, the postmortem interval was estimated by determining the protein and mRNA levels of Bax and Bcl-2 in the skin.

Immunotherapy, in particular immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy targeting the programmed cell death-1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) axis, has remarkably revolutionized cancer treatment in the clinic. Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy is designed to restore the antitumor response of cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) by blocking the interaction between PD-L1 on tumour cells and PD-1 on CTLs. Nevertheless, current anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy suffers from poor therapeutic outcomes in a large variety of solid tumours due to insufficient tumour specificity, severe cytotoxic effects, and the occurrence of immune resistance.

Skeletal muscle differentiation is controlled by multiple cell signaling pathways, however, the JNK/MAPK signaling pathway dominating this process has not been fully elucidated. Here, we report that the JNK/MAPK pathway was significantly downregulated in the late stages of myogenesis, and in contrast to P38/MAPK pathway, it negatively regulated skeletal muscle differentiation. Based on the PAR-CLIP-seq analysis, we identified six elevated miRNAs (miR-1a-3p, miR-133a-3p, miR-133b-3p, miR-206-3p, miR-128-3p, miR-351-5p), namely myogenesis-associated miRNAs (mamiRs), negatively controlled the JNK/MAPK pathway by repressing multiple factors for the phosphorylation of the JNK/MAPK pathway, including MEKK1, MEKK2, MKK7, and c-Jun but not JNK protein itself, and as a result, expression of transcriptional factor MyoD and mamiRs were further promoted.

c-Met/HGF signaling pathway plays an important role in cancer progression, and it was considered to be related to poor prognosis and drug resistance. Based on metabolite profiling of (S)-7-fluoro-6-(1-(6-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyrazin-1-yl)ethyl)quinoline (1), a series of 2-substituted or 3-substituted-6-(1-(1H-[1,2,3]triazolo[4,5-b]pyrazin-1-yl)ethyl)quinoline derivatives was rationally designed and evaluated. Most of the 3-substituted derivatives not only exhibited potent activities in both enzymatic and cellular assays, but also were stable in liver microsomes among different species (human, rat and monkey).
