Background: Transitioning from pediatric to adult sickle cell disease (SCD) care is challenging for emerging adults (aged 17-25 years). This period is marked by a 7-fold increase in mortality rates and has the highest rates of hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and hospital readmissions compared with children living with SCD. These challenges are exacerbated by fragmented care coordination, difficulty navigating adult health care systems, and increased self-management responsibilities.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous, crystalline materials known for their structural versatility and high thermal stability, making them promising candidates for light-emitting diode applications. Distinct classes of MOFs, such as multivariate (MTV)-MOFs and MOF-on-MOFs, introduce heterogeneity by incorporating multiple ligands within a single unit cell (MTV-MOFs) or by stacking different MOFs on top of each other (MOF-on-MOF). Although these strategies improve their properties, the mechanisms of energy transfer between their heterogeneous components and their effects on optical properties, such as quantum yields, remain poorly understood.

Front-line pharmaceutical treatment for treatment of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is not uniformly effective and has toxic side effects. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous population of immature myeloid cells with potent in vitro and in vivo immunosuppressive functions. Meerkats () and yellow mongooses () share many behavioural characteristics and are known to, on rare occasions, live in close association through displayed cooperative vigilance and shared burrow use. Here, we describe the first visual observation of tactile social behaviour through grooming between a meerkat and a yellow mongoose in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, South Africa. We hypothesise that the close relationship between the two species in the reserve may be a response to a combination of phylogenetic ties, shared behavioural traits, and the population collapse of meerkats in the reserve that exposed a vacant social niche.

MYC-driven group-3 medulloblastomas (MBs) are malignant pediatric brain cancers without cures. To define actionable metabolic dependencies, we identify upregulation of dihydrolipoyl transacetylase (DLAT), the E2-subunit of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) in a subset of group-3 MB with poor prognosis. DLAT is induced by c-MYC and targeting DLAT lowers TCA cycle metabolism and glutathione synthesis.

Signaling through the β-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) mobilizes immune cells during exercise and is implicated in tumor lymphocyte infiltration. We investigated mechanisms governing immune cell mobilization in humans and the role of adrenergic signaling in anti-cancer responses to a murine lymphoma. Glial cells of the enteric nervous system (ENS) interact closely with the intestinal epithelium and secrete signals that influence epithelial cell proliferation and barrier formation in vitro. Whether these interactions are important in vivo, however, is unclear because previous studies reached conflicting conclusions (Prochera and Rao, 2023). Photocatalytic hydrogen production offers an alternative pathway to establish a sustainable energy economy, utilizing the Earth's natural sunlight and water resources to address environmental concerns associated with fossil fuel combustion.
