Combined cross-linked enzyme aggregates (Combi-CLEAs) of β-Galactosidase (β-Gal) and Glucose Isomerase (GI) allow the transformation of d-lactose to lactose-fructose syrup through one-pot cascade biocatalytic reactions. Despite its promise, the low thermostability of β-Gal and high-temperature demands for GI limits this application. Trehalose is a protein-stabilizing disaccharide which has been utilized in immobilized enzyme systems to enhance protein thermostability.

While the prevailing treatment for corneal abrasions outside the athletic sphere is the application of a bandage contact lens (BCL), which lessens pain and allows for the maintenance of binocular vision, this is not the case during athletic play. This brief report highlights the advantage of BCLs in treating in-game corneal abrasions, ultimately allowing for an immediate return to play. Additionally, this report summarizes the mechanisms of bandage contact lenses, differentiates them from standard hydrogel contact lenses, and highlights the significant steps necessary to apply the bandage contact lens during an in-game corneal abrasion event.

Introduction: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heritable, collagen-related disorder with varying degrees of disease severity and systemic involvement. The hallmark of OI is bone matrix fragility, but diverse effects related to structural integrity and impaired development of connective tissue can account for hearing loss, blue sclera, dentinogenesis imperfecta, frequent fractures, joint hypermobility, and cardiac valve or vessel fragility in some cases. There is emerging recognition of unique genetic mutations leading to OI including CREB3L1, which codes for an important transcription factor for differentiation of osteoblasts.

Objective: Chronic pain is common in the military, and over a quarter of active-duty military members have received a prescription for opioids. This study reviewed the initial opioid prescription among those who became future long-term users at an Air Force base in the United States and reports the characteristics of the provider and patient.

Methods: Our single-center retrospective study evaluated initial opioid prescriptions leading to long-term use within the military's electronic medical record at a large military medical treatment facility including active-duty patients and veterans.

Enteroviral meningoencephalitis is a rare complication of rituximab therapy that has been described in the treatment of hematologic malignancies. We report the first case of enteroviral meningoencephalitis in a patient receiving rituximab for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. A 37-year-old female treated with rituximab for severe rheumatoid arthritis presented with fever, headache, confusion, and tremor.

Objectives: As the commercial cannabis industry grows, there is an increased need to characterize potentially hazardous workplace exposures and provide training to workers to mitigate these exposures with the goal of reducing accidents and injuries from cannabis cultivation, processing, and manufacturing. Public health and safety stakeholders in Colorado developed a worker-focused training designed to improve hazard awareness, recognition, and controls related to commercial cannabis cultivation. Background: There is a lack of trained Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) professionals able to meet the current and future demand for such expertize in the United States. Many OSH professionals are required to perform duties, which are outside of their primary area of expertize; thus, expansion of continuing education (CE) may be necessary to properly train individuals for new OSH responsibilities.

Polymer semiconductors based on donor-acceptor monomers have recently resulted in significant gains in field effect mobility in organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). These polymers incorporate fused aromatic rings and have been designed to have stiff planar backbones, resulting in strong intermolecular interactions, which subsequently result in stiff and brittle films. Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition (CPPD) disease is a common etiology of crystalline arthropathy; however, it can manifest in multiple patterns such as acute calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystal arthritis, osteoarthritis with CPPD, and chronic CPP crystal inflammatory arthritis. Tumoral or tophaceous-like CPPD is a rare manifestation that is occasionally mistaken for gouty tophus or a soft tissue malignancy. Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) is a new imaging modality currently utilized in assessing monosodium urate crystal deposition; however, its value in CPPD is uncertain.

The R41M and K14M mutant enzymes of yeast guanylate kinase (GKy) were studied to investigate the effects of these site-directed mutations on bound-substrate conformations. Published X-ray crystal structures of yeast guanylate kinase indicate that K14 is part of the "P" loop involved in ATP and ADP binding, while R41 is suggested as a hydrogen bonding partner for the phosphoryl moiety of GMP. Both of these residues might be involved in transition state stabilization.
