Shape control during nanocrystal synthesis enables tunable physicochemical properties that emerge at the nanoscale. The shape-dependent aero- and hydro-dynamics found in nature have been adopted in a wide range of areas spanning from daily transportation to forefront biomedical research. Here, we report DNA-linked nanoparticle films exhibiting shape-dependent magnetic locomotion, controlled by DNA sequences. Fabricated through a DNA-directed layer-by-layer assembly of iron oxide and gold nanoparticles, the multifunctional films exhibit rotational and translational motions under magnetic fields, along with reversible shape morphing via DNA strand exchange reactions.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were combined with carbon nanotubes and gold to develop improved photocatalysts for the production of hydrogen from water. The entangled nature of the nanotubes allowed for the integration of the photoactive hybrid catalyst, as a packed-bed, in a microfluidic photoreactor, and the chips were studied in the photocatalyzed continuous flow production of hydrogen. The combination of titanium dioxide with carbon nanotubes and gold significantly improved hydrogen production due to a synergistic effect between the multi-component system and the stabilization of the active catalytic species.

Here, we report charge-transfer-driven self-assembly of conjugated block copolymers (BCP) into highly doped conjugated polymer nanofibers. The ground-state integer charge transfer (ICT) between a BCP composed of poly(3-hexylthiophene) and poly(ethylene oxide) (P3HT--PEO) and electron-deficient 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4TCNQ) induced spontaneous self-assembly of the donor and the acceptor into well-defined one-dimensional nanofibers. The presence of the PEO block plays an important role for the self-assembly by providing a polar environment that can stabilize nanoscale charge transfer (CT) assemblies.

To identify the changes in cross-sectional areas (CSAs) and fatty infiltration of both sides of the paravertebral muscles and their associations with prognostic factors in patients who underwent unilateral lumbar discectomy. We retrospectively reviewed 27 patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging before and after 1- or 2-level lumbar discectomy. Okamura (ES) is mainly distributed in the coastal areas of the middle Pacific, around Korea and Japan, and has a long-standing edible value. We use europium doped single crystalline NaYFnanorods for probing the electric and magnetic contributions to the local density of optical states (LDOS). Reciprocically, we determine intrinsic properties of the emitters (oscillator strength, quantum yield) by comparing their measured and simulated optical responses in front of a mirror. We first experimentally determine the specifications of the nanoprobe (orientation and oscillator strength of the electric and magnetic dipoles moments) and show significant orientation sensitivity of the branching ratios associated with electric and magnetic transitions.
