Skeletal muscles grow substantially during childhood. However, quantitative information about the size of typically developing children's muscles is sparse. Here, the objective was to construct muscle-specific reference curves for lower leg muscle volumes in children aged 5 to 15 y.

Subjects/methods: This was a single-centre, multi-surgeon, retrospective analysis of 50 consecutive cases of PGI for uveitic glaucoma performed between April 2019 and August 2021. Primary outcomes include: complete and qualified success (IOP ≥5 mmHg to ≤21 mmHg with ≥20% IOP reduction) or failure (IOP exceeding the success criteria, additional glaucoma procedures, no perception of light vision).

Objectives: The goal of this case report is to detail experiences and challenges experienced in the training of Primary Care residents in secondary analysis using All of Us Researcher Workbench. At our large, urban safety net hospital, Primary Care/Internal Medicine residents in their third year undergo a research intensive block, the Research Practicum, where they work as a team to conduct secondary data analysis on a dataset with faculty facilitation. In 2023, this research block focused on use of the All of Us Researcher Workbench for secondary data analysis.

The first Aesthetic Council on Ethical Use of Neurotoxin Delivery panel discussed issues relating to BoNT-A immunoresistance from the health care professionals' (HCPs') perspective. Understanding the implications of BoNT-A immunoresistance from the aesthetic patient's viewpoint allows HCPs to better support patients throughout their aesthetic treatment journey.

Objective: Gender nonconformity refers to individuals whose gender identity, roles, or expressions do not adhere to societal standards and norms. Affirmative care is an approach to healthcare delivery in which organizations, programs, and providers recognize, validate, and support the identity stated or expressed by the individuals served. This study examined the effects of nonsurgical interventions performed by dermatologists, specifically botulinum toxins (BoNTA) and dermal filler injections, on the physical and mental health of Filipino gender nonconforming individuals.

While minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery can help reduce blood loss, reduce hospital time, and shorten recovery time compared to open surgery, it has the disadvantages of limited field of view and difficulty in locating subsurface targets. Our proposed solution applies an augmented reality (AR) system to overlay pre-operative images, such as those from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), onto the target organ in the user's real-world environment. Our system can provide critical information regarding the location of subsurface lesions to guide surgical procedures in real time.

Objective: In 2020, one study by Strait and colleagues raised awareness that the clinical images in rheumatology educational materials underrepresent people with skin of color (P-SOC). Since then, publishers of rheumatology educational materials have focused on addressing this shortcoming. This study investigates the change in representation of P-SOC following the review of Strait et al.

Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a chronic, adult-onset optic neuropathy associated with characteristic optic disc and/or visual field changes. With a view to identifying modifiable risk factors for this common neurodegenerative condition, we performed a 'phenome-wide' univariable Mendelian randomisation (MR) study that involved analysing the relationship between 9661 traits and POAG. Utilised analytical approaches included weighted mode based estimation, the weighted median method, the MR Egger method and the inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach.

However, previous studies evaluated fewer than 200 patients and often studied only 1 to 2 test combinations. The purpose of this study was to accumulate a large single-institution cohort of revision total joint arthroplasty (rTJA) patients to determine the diagnostic utility of combination serum biomarkers to identify PJI.

Previous research has demonstrated evidence of "pent-up demand" in health care (delaying medical care until financially able) accompanying insurance status changes. The purpose of this study was to determine pent-up demand for TSA in the years leading up to Medicare coverage at age 65 years while identifying key drivers underlying this trend, including socioeconomic status.

While a vast amount of data currently exist exploring lower-extremity kinematic and strength factors in baseball pitchers, no previous study has systematically reviewed the available literature.
Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to perform a comprehensive assessment of the available literature investigating the association between lower-extremity kinematic and strength parameters and pitch velocity in adult pitchers.
Background: As ambulatory total knee arthroplasty (TKA) becomes increasingly common, unplanned admission after surgery presents a challenge for the health care system. Studies evaluating the reasons and risk factors for this occurrence are limited. We sought to evaluate the reasons for unplanned admission after surgery and identify risk factors associated with this occurrence.

Fibrosis is a common and debilitating pathological process that affects many organ systems and contributes to connective tissue disorders in orthopaedics. Tendons heal after acute and chronic injury through a process of fibrovascular scar tissue formation, and soft tissue joint capsules can be affected after traumatic joint injury, leading to arthrofibrosis. Although the precise underlying mechanisms are still being elucidated, fibrosis is thought to be a consequence of dysregulated immune and cytokine signaling that leads to myofibroblast activation and proliferation and subsequent excessive collagen deposition.

Unlabelled: Botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT-A) injection is the most widely performed aesthetic procedure and a first-line therapeutic option for various medical conditions. The potential for BoNT-A immunoresistance and secondary nonresponse related to neutralizing antibody (NAb) formation warrants attention as the range of BoNT-A aesthetic applications continues to expand.
Methods: An international multidisciplinary panel reviewed published evidence on BoNT-A immunoresistance in aesthetic and therapeutic applications and discussed best practices integrating clinical, ethical, and aesthetic considerations.
Background: While online orthopedic resources are becoming an increasingly popular avenue for patient education, videos on YouTube are not subject to peer review. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the quality of YouTube videos for patient education in ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries of the elbow.
Methods: A search of keywords for UCL injury was conducted through the YouTube search engine.
Background Excess mortality from cardiovascular disease during the COVID-19 pandemic has been reported. The mechanism is unclear but may include delay or deferral of care, or differential treatment during hospitalization because of strains on hospital capacity. Methods and Results We used emergency department and inpatient data from a 12-hospital health system to examine changes in volume, patient age and comorbidities, treatment (right- and left-heart catheterization), and outcomes for patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and heart failure (HF) during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with pre-COVID-19 (2018 and 2019), controlling for seasonal variation.

Thus, the purpose of this exploratory study was to determine whether preoperative biomarkers of cartilage turnover and inflammation are associated with specific shoulder lesions in shoulder instability. Thirty-three patients (29.

Goal: We investigated if the combination of fibrosis index based on 4 factors (FIB-4) and liver stiffness measure (LSM) can identify AF and more importantly, CSPH.
Patients And Methods: Patients with chronic liver disease referred for transjugular liver biopsy were analyzed retrospectively.
Unlabelled: The relationship between the checkpoint kinase Chk1 and the STAT3 pathway was examined in multiple myeloma cells. Gene expression profiling of U266 cells exposed to low (nmol/L) Chk1 inhibitor [PF-477736 (PF)] concentrations revealed STAT3 pathway-related gene downregulation (e.g.

Despite their clinical effectiveness, long-term engagement to these programs remains a challenge, creating barriers to adherence and meaningful health outcomes. We partnered with a dDPP vendor to develop a personalized automatic message system (PAMS) to promote user engagement to the dDPP platform by sending messages on behalf of their primary care provider.

However, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient volumes for a broad range of orthopedic conditions remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of the COVID-19 pandemic with changes in patient volumes of 35 emergent (e.
