To address the growing demand for environmentally friendly flexible sensors, here, a composite hydrogel of nanocellulose (NC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was designed and fabricated using shells as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based raw materials. Firstly, NC was extracted from shells and modified with 2-chloropropyl chloride to obtain a nanocellulose-based initiator (Init-NC) for atomic transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Subsequently, sulfonyl betaine methacrylate (SBMA) was polymerized by Init-NC initiating to yield zwitterion-functionalized nanocellulose (NC-PSBMA).

In recent years, the disposal of agricultural lignocellulosic residues has been accompanied by problems such as resource waste and environmental pollution. Therefore, the development of valorization technologies has emerged as a strategic priority in sustainable materials science. This study pioneered the use of corncob cellulose as the substrate (a representative agricultural lignocellulosic residue) and transformed it into ionized cellulose by grafting methacryloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and UV-initiated polymerization.

Rebound of SARS-CoV-2 shedding or COVID-19 signs and symptoms has been described after treatment with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Paxlovid). The direct association of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir to COVID-19 rebound remains unclear because most reports are based on individual cases or nonrandomized studies. Viral RNA shedding data from two phase 2/3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Evaluation of Protease Inhibition for COVID-19 in High-Risk Patients [EPIC-HR] and Evaluation of Protease Inhibition for COVID-19 in Standard-Risk Patients [EPIC-SR]) were analyzed to investigate the role of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir treatment in COVID-19 rebound.

Background: Pulmonary fibrosis is a major category of end-stage changes in lung diseases, characterized by lung epithelial cell damage, proliferation of fibroblasts, and accumulation of extracellular matrix. Peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1), a member of the peroxiredoxin protein family, participates in the regulation of the levels of reactive oxygen species in cells and various other physiological activities, as well as the occurrence and development of diseases by functioning as a chaperonin.

Methods: Experimental methods including MTT assay, morphological observation of fibrosis, wound healing assay, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, western blot, transcriptome sequencing, and histopathological analysis were used in this study.

Inspired by the self-recoverability ability of organisms, various self-healing materials have been developed. However, most reinforced fillers are faced with the problem that mechanical strength and self-healing efficiency of materials cannot be improved simultaneously. Here we first prepared new polysiloxane-polyurea (PDMS-PU) and used it as matrix resin to prepare cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/PDMS-PU composite materials with high mechanical properties.

The plant pathogenic fungus can survive on a wide range of hosts and cause significant losses on crop yields. FKH, a forkhead box (FOX)-containing protein, functions to regulate transcription and signal transduction. As a transcription factor (TF) with multiple biological functions in eukaryotic organisms, little research has been done on the role of FKH protein in pathogenic fungi.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the notorious necrotrophic phytopathogenic fungus with wide distribution, is responsible for sclerotium disease in more than 600 plant species, including many economic crops such as soybean, oilseed rape, and sunflower. The compound appressorium is a crucial multicellular infection structure that is a prerequisite for infecting healthy tissues. Previously, the Forkhead-box family transcription factors (FOX TFs) SsFoxE2 and SsFKH1 were shown to play a key regulatory role in the hyphae growth, sexual reproduction, and pathogenicity of S.

Thirteen phenolic compounds were isolated from pear (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim.) peels and leaves extracts by using various column chromatography techniques with a guided DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical-scavenging assay, the result of antioxidant activity of phenolic compounds is then verified by measurement of ROS (reactive oxygen species). The isolated compounds were identified as rutin (1), (-)-catechin (2), orobol (3), daidzein (4), tricin 4'-O-[threo-β-guaiacyl-(7″-O-methyl)-glyceryl] ether (5), tricin 4'-O-[threo-β-guaiacyl-(7″-O-methyl-9″-O-acetyl)-glyceryl] ether (6), 5,7,3',5'-tetrahydroxyflavanone (7), artselaeroside A (8), trilobatin (9), 3-(2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan-1-one (10), quercetin-3-O-(3″-O-galloyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (11), apigenin (12) and quercetin (13) on the basis of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy along with comparison with literature data.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of gestrinone with that of mifepristone for emergency contraception.

Methods: A randomized double-blind trial was conducted in five family-planning clinics in China. We randomly assigned 998 healthy women with regular menstrual cycles and negative urine pregnancy tests who were requesting emergency contraception up to 72 hours after unprotected coitus to receive single-dose 10 mg gestrinone (n=499) or 10 mg mifepristone (n=499).

A randomized, selfcross-over and placebo-controlled clinical trial has been taken to evaluated the curative efficacy of rhIL-11 (Mega) for thrombocytopenia in 29 cancer patients with severe myelosuppression induced by chemotherapy. Twenty-five micro g/kg of Mega or placebo was administered subcutaneously once daily starting 24 hours after the completion of chemotherapy, and continuing for 7 to 14 days or until the platelet count reached 300 x 10(9)/L. The results from those in 118 cases performed phase II clinical trial, showed that there were 29 cases with platelet count less than 50 x 10(9)/L in placebo cycle, but there was only 1 case in Mega cycle.
