The severity of sepsis is attributed to excessive inflammatory responses leading to liver injury. Pregnane X receptor (PXR), a nuclear receptor that controls xenobiotic and endobiotic metabolism, has been implicated in regulating inflammation and liver regeneration. This study aimed to investigate the role of PXR in sepsis-induced liver injury and the underlying mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • * DHHC2 activity increases in the hippocampus following fear conditioning, and knockdown of DHHC2 disrupts fear-induced memory and long-term potentiation (LTP).
  • * The study shows that fear learning enhances the palmitoylation of AKAP150 and highlights the importance of DHHC2 in the interaction between AKAP150 and PSD-95, affecting GluA1 phosphorylation and LTP.

Background: The incidence of hypertension is high in people living with HIV (PLWH). High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), and neutrophil-to-monocyte ratio (NMR) are considered economic and convenient parameters that reflect the levels of inflammation in patients. Our aim was to explore whether indirect inflammation markers are associated with hypertension in PLWH.

Objectives: The gouty arthritis (GA) progression was multistage, yet the GA clinical diagnosis guidelines were more inclined to suitable for acute gouty arthritis (AGA), thus neglecting of the progress of GA. This study aimed to identify specific biomarkers that were competent for reflecting the progression of GA and attempted to provide evidence for seasonable intervention of appropriate clinical treatment.

Methods: A total of 547 patients with GA at sequential stages and healthy volunteers were divided into a training set (n = 347) and a validation set (n = 200).

The disease progression of gouty arthritis (GA) is relatively clear, with the 4 stages of hyperuricemia (HUA), acute gouty arthritis (AGA), gouty arthritis during the intermittent period (GIP), and chronic gouty arthritis (CGA). This paper attempts to construct a clinical diagnostic model based on blood routine test data, in order to avoid the need for bursa fluid examination and other tedious steps, and at the same time to predict the development direction of GA.Serum samples from 579 subjects were collected within 3 years in this study and were divided into a training set (n = 379) and validation set (n = 200).

Gouty arthritis (GA) is commonly caused by deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals within the joint capsule, bursa, cartilage, bone, or other periarticular tissues after chronic hyperuricemia. Clinically, GA is characterized by acute episodes of joint inflammation, which is most frequently encountered in the major joints, and also has a significant impact on quality of life. Pulchinenoside b4(P-b4) has a wide range of biological activities, including antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and immunomodulatory activities.

Background: Vault is the largest nonicosahedral cytosolic nucleoprotein particle, which is widely involved in induction of chemoresistance and lead to failure in long-term chemotherapy. Vault contains three different major vault proteins (MVPs) and four vault RNAs paralogues (vtRNAs, vtRNA1-1, vtRNA1-2, vtRNA1-3 and vtRNA2-1). Disruption of the MVPs do not induce hypersensitivity while expression of vtRNAs contributes to cells' drug resistance, indicates that vtRNAs, but not MVPs play an important role in causing drug resistance.

Cisplatin is a classical platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug used in the treatment of many cancer types, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The application of cisplatin is significantly limited by its toxicity, which may be affected by various biological factors. Persistence of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection leads to HCC development and may be associated with higher incidence of severe hepatitis during chemotherapy.

In this work, an ionic liquid-based ultrasonic-assisted extraction (ILUAE) method was developed to extract caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) from Flos Lonicerae Japonicae (FLJ). ILUAE parameters were optimized by response surface methodology, including IL concentration, ultrasonic time, and liquid-solid ratio. Optimized ILUAE approach gained the highest extraction yields of 28.

Objective: To define cut-off values of plasma amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-ProBNP) for the diagnosis of congenital heart failure (CHF) and evaluate the importance of plasma NT-ProBNP measurement in the assessment of cardiac function prior to heart surgery in infants with congenital heart disease (CHD).

Methods: Plasma levels of NT-proBNP were measured in 120 infants with CHD before heart surgery and in 100 age-matched healthy infants between June 2010 and June 2013. The data were stratified based on the presence or absence of CHF in the whole group of CHD infants and on age (i.

Probiotics modulate immunity and inhibit colon carcinogenesis in experimental models, but these effects largely depend on the bacterial strain, and the precise mechanisms are not well understood. Therefore, we studied the effect of Bifidobacterium longum and/or Lactobacillus gasseri on the development of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colonic precancerous lesions and tumors in mice while delineating the possible mechanisms involved. The results suggest that dietary consumption of probiotics (B.

Amorphous drugs have higher solubility, better oral bioavailability and are easier to be absorbed than their crystalline counterparts. However, the amorphous drugs, with weak stability, are so easy to crystallize that they will lose the original advantages. Polarization microscope, scanning electron microscope, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffractomer and Raman spectroscopy were used to study the microcosmic crystallization mechanisms of amorphous indometacin and the performance of the drug crystals.
