Patients with advanced-stage squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of tongue often have a poor long-term prognosis, despite advances in diagnosis and management. Imaging is pivotal for staging, restaging and assessing treatment response in these malignancies. To improve patient outcomes, in addition to the commonly used TNM staging, it is crucial to investigate new indicators for prognosis prediction and to inform treatment therapy, which usually occurs before or in synchrony with structural changes.

Tuberculous pericarditis (TBP) is a rare but potentially life-threatening manifestation of tuberculosis, often presenting with nonspecific symptoms and varied clinical features. The disease is characterised by inflammation of the pericardium due to mycobacterium tuberculosis, leading to complications such as effusion, tamponade, and, in chronic cases, constrictive pericarditis. TBP is associated with high mortality, particularly if not promptly diagnosed and treated.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) includes approximately 20% of all breast cancer and is characterized by its aggressive nature, high recurrence rates, and visceral metastasis. Pathological complete response (pCR) is an established surrogate endpoint for survival. The window of opportunity studies provide valuable information on the disease biology prior to definitive treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of bisphosphonates (BP) in treating hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HPOA) through a case and systematic literature review.
  • A total of 45 patients with either primary or secondary HPOA were analyzed, revealing that 88.3% experienced pain improvement after BP treatment, especially within days for secondary HPOA.
  • Despite the promising results, the study highlights the need for more randomized controlled trials, as the current data comes mostly from case reports and secondary outcomes were not consistently reported.

The sodium-iodide symporter (NIS, SLC5A5) is expressed at the basolateral membrane of the thyroid follicular cell, and facilitates the thyroidal iodide uptake required for thyroid hormone biosynthesis. Biallelic loss-of-function mutations in NIS are a rare cause of dyshormonogenic congenital hypothyroidism. Affected individuals typically exhibit a normally sited, often goitrous thyroid gland, with absent uptake of radioiodine in the thyroid and other NIS-expressing tissues.

Introduction: Upper gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, and poor appetite are more frequent among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and may contribute to poor nutritional intake and malnutrition. Delayed gastric emptying (GE), one of the important contributors to these symptoms, has not been evaluated systematically in different stages of non-diabetic CKD, among Indian patients.

Materials And Methods: This hospital-based, cross-sectional analytical study aimed to find out the frequency of delayed GE in non-diabetic CKD (stages: 3,4,5) patients and also to study the correlation between delayed GE and symptoms of gastroparesis, autonomic neuropathy and nutritional parameters.
