Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common respiratory emergency, but current clinical treatment remains at the level of symptomatic support and there is a lack of effective targeted treatment measures. Our previous study confirmed that inhalation of hydrogen gas can reduce the acute lung injury of ARDS, but the application of hydrogen has flammable and explosive safety concerns. Drinking hydrogen-rich liquid or inhaling hydrogen gas has been shown to play an important role in scavenging reactive oxygen species and maintaining mitochondrial quality control balance, thus improving ARDS in patients and animal models.

Background: In hybrid rice seed production, rice varieties with a small flag leaf angle (FLA) experience obstacles to cross-pollination at the early heading stage, and farmers usually need to remove flag leaves to achieve artificial pollination. Therefore, the cultivation of rice varieties with large FLAs can not only save a substantial amount of labour in the leaf-cutting process during artificial pollination but also accelerate the mechanization of hybrid rice seed production.

Results: In this study, 431 rice accessions were included in a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and the superior haplotypes for rice FLA in 2022 and 2023.

Background: Ciprofol (CIP) for procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) for painless gastrointestinal endoscopy (GE) can cause respiratory or cardiovascular complications. The literature suggests that intravenous (IV) lidocaine infusion can alleviate visceral pain and enhance humans' ventilator response to CO. Therefore, it was hypothesized that IV lidocaine could reduce the CIP dose for painless GE and improve recovery time.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute and severe clinical complication lacking effective therapeutic interventions. The disruption of the lung epithelial barrier plays a crucial role in ARDS pathogenesis. Recent studies have proposed the involvement of abnormal mitochondrial dynamics mediated by dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) in the mechanism of impaired epithelial barrier in ARDS.

With growing concerns over water management in rivers worldwide, researchers are seeking innovative solutions to monitor and understand changing flood patterns. In a noteworthy advancement, stakeholders interested in the changing flood patterns of the Murray Darling Basin (MDB) in Australia, covering an area of 1 million km, can now access a consistent timeseries of water depth maps for the entire basin. The dataset covers the period from 1988 to 2022 at two-monthly timestep and was developed using remotely sensed imagery and a flood depth estimation model at a spatial resolution of ≈30 m, providing a comprehensive picture of maximum observed inundation depth across the MDB.

In this paper, experimental and theoretical studies of the piezoelectric effect of two-dimensional ZnO nanostructures, including straight nanosheets (SNSs) and curved nanosheets (CNSs) are conducted. The results show that the CNSs have a great advantage in piezoelectric property over the SNSs; the maximum output current of the NG based on CNSs was measured to be about 260 nA, much higher than that generated by SNSs. For comparatively analyzing the working mechanics of both NGs, the piezopotential distribution of both CNS and SNS structures was studied using the finite element method.

Article Synopsis
  • C/EBPα helps cells grow and gain energy, and it's important for how liver cancer (HCC) develops and affects patients.
  • In most liver cancer samples studied, C/EBPα was found to be more active, and patients with higher levels did worse in survival rates.
  • C/EBPα also protects liver cancer cells from dying when they don't get enough energy by helping them break down fats and using a process called autophagy.

We revisit the SM2 protocol, which is widely used in Chinese commercial applications and by Chinese government agencies. Although it is by now standard practice for protocol designers to provide security proofs in widely accepted security models in order to assure protocol implementers of their security properties, the SM2 protocol does not have a proof of security. In this paper, we prove the security of the SM2 protocol in the widely accepted indistinguishability-based Bellare-Rogaway model under the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP) assumption.
