Epigenetic processes, such as DNA methylation, show potential as biological markers and mechanisms underlying gene-environment interplay in the prediction of mental health and other brain-based phenotypes. However, little is known about how peripheral epigenetic patterns relate to individual differences in the brain itself. An increasingly popular approach to address this is by combining epigenetic and neuroimaging data; yet, research in this area is almost entirely comprised of cross-sectional studies in adults.

Background: Prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) may adversely impact child neurodevelopment; however, epidemiologic findings remain inconclusive because of small sample sizes, limited exposure variability, and differing neurodevelopmental measures. We aimed to investigate the relationship between prenatal PFAS exposure and child behavior.
Methods: We pooled data from nine study sites in the nationwide Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort.

Background: Cisplatin is a commonly used chemotherapeutic across numerous cancer types that can cause neurotoxicities in patients, including peripheral sensory neuropathy, tinnitus, hearing loss, and vertigo.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate, for the first time, how genetic ancestry impacts cisplatin-induced neurotoxicities and if disparities are related to population differences in allele frequency.
Methods: In a cohort of cisplatin-treated testicular cancer survivors, relationships between genetic ancestry and neurotoxicities, medications, and lifestyle factors were assessed using logistic regression and Kruskal-Wallis tests and multiple pairwise comparisons using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test (Benjamini-Hochberg adjustment).

The fourth leading cause of death in the US, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is punctuated by frequent viral and bacterial infections causing severe acute exacerbations (AECOPD) and increased mortality. In previous work we have shown that altered immune cell signaling may confer increased and persistent susceptibility to infection. Here we continue this investigation by conducting broad-spectrum proteomic profiling of circulating white blood cells to assemble an empirical protein-protein interaction network associated with frequency of infectious exacerbation.

Existential uncertainty dominates the patient experience in cardiac inherited diseases due to unpredictable disease course and the risk of sudden cardiac death. Traditional uncertainty theoretical models inadequately capture the unique facets of uncertainty associated with these diseases. Using Walker and Avant's theory derivation method, an uncertainty theory for nursing practice was developed by adapting concepts from self-organized criticality and grounding them with Parse's Human Becoming Theory within the Unitary Transformative Paradigm.

Sinus venosus atrial septal defects (ASDs) are rare congenital anomalies that result from an abnormality of the junction between the right atrium, superior vena cava (SVC), and pulmonary veins. This defect causes right-to-left shunting, which can lead to progressive right heart enlargement. We present a case of a 59-year-old man with a history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia who presented with dyspnea and newly diagnosed atrial flutter.

Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPTF) is a recently characterized lesion typically associated with non-neoplastic renal disease. Its pathogenesis is thought to result from chronic renal "irritation," either due to mass effect from renal carcinoma or inflammation related to benign renal conditions. Prompted by several cases arising in the absence of underlying renal pathology, we conducted a multi-institutional study of 29 mass-forming cases with detailed clinical, histologic, and molecular characterization.

Background: Insomnia is a toxicity of cancer and treatment for survivors without an objective biochemical measure. Circadian rhythms are 24-h cycles that influence physiologic processes including sleep, and disrupted rhythms may contribute to insomnia. Here, we use BloodCCD to assess circadian rhythms from RNA-sequencing of blood from cancer survivors with insomnia from the YOCAS-II trial.

Introduction: Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) volume has significantly increased over the last several decades, especially in the outpatient setting. Performing TSA in lower volume hospital facilities may offset demand, especially when treating medically complex patients. The purpose of this study is to assess the association of annual hospital volume and patient medical complexity with postoperative complications, readmissions, and length of stay in patients undergoing TSA, rTSA, and revision TSA.

Geographic information system (GIS)-driven research, while relatively early in its tenure, has already reconceptualized the kinds of questions vetted by the Emergency Medicine (EM) researcher. This narrative review provides an overview of geographic information systems and identifies and discusses specific papers with differing methodologic approaches within the published GIS-driven EM literature. GIS applications within three discrete threads of inquiry are described: Access to Health Services, Spatial Epidemiology, and Proactive Resource Allocation.

Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients have unique nononcologic challenges compared to adult and pediatric counterparts. National guidelines highlight unmet care needs in mental, physical, and sexual/reproductive health domains. We present a single institution retrospective matched cohort study exploring the feasibility of using electronic medical record (EMR) to identify nononcologic domains correlating to unmet care needs in AYA patients with lymphoma compared with matched controls.

The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) integrates neuroendocrine and autonomic signals that regulate blood pressure and metabolism. Although the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is implicated in neurogenic hypertension and obesity, cell-type-specific expression and regulation of its components within the PVN remain poorly understood. Here, we employed single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) to profile the transcriptomic landscape of the PVN in male mice under baseline conditions and in models of DOCA-salt-induced hypertension and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity.

Oncogenic Ras mutations are prevalent in human cancers, yet the mechanisms by which Ras promotes tumorigenesis remain incompletely understood. In Drosophila, oncogenic Ras (Ras) induces tissue overgrowth and metastasis, but the cellular restraints it must overcome are unclear. We have identified Drosophila CRIF, the homolog of mammalian CR6-interacting factor 1 (CRIF1), as a modifier of Ras-induced lethality and Ras-induced overgrowth and cell proliferation.
