Background: Diabetic patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are at an increased risk of cardiovascular events as compared to non-diabetic patients. This analysis investigated outcomes of diabetic patients presenting with multivessel disease (MVD) and STEMI in a contemporary trial and the relevance of an immediate versus staged multivessel PCI strategy in this high-risk population.
Methods: Patients enrolled in the MULTISTARS AMI trial were stratified according to the presence/absence of diabetes.

Photonic Reservoir Computing (RC) systems leverage the complex propagation and nonlinear interaction of optical waves to perform information processing tasks. These systems employ a combination of optical data encoding (in the field amplitude and/or phase), random scattering, and nonlinear detection to generate nonlinear features that can be processed via a linear readout layer. In this work, we propose a novel scattering-assisted photonic reservoir encoding scheme where the input phase is deliberately wrapped multiple times beyond the natural period of the optical waves [0,2π).

Consumption of mango has been associated with a number of beneficial effects on health which have been attributed to phenolic catabolites originating from (poly)phenols following ingestion. To investigate the origins of potentially bioactive phenolic catabolites, ileostomists and subjects with a full gastrointestinal tract on a low(poly)phenol diet ingested a mango pulp purée containing 426 μmol of (poly)phenols consisting mainly of gallotannins and cinnamic acids, along with 231 μmol of the aromatic amino acids phenylalanine and tyrosine. Over a 24 h period post-mango intake plasma and urine were collected and analysed by UHPLC-HRMS.

The first paper of this two-part series critically examined the role of composite endpoints in health technology assessments (HTAs) and outlined strategies for determining whether to employ the composite estimate of treatment effect or disaggregate into the component endpoints of the composite and apply separate treatment effects within a modeling framework. In this second paper, we expand the discussion beyond a pivotal trial and consider the way in which additional evidence from the same indication for different drugs in the same class, or the same drug for different indications, could be employed within HTAs. We offer a continuation of the case study of dapagliflozin for the treatment of heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction, where the evidence base was expanded to consider empagliflozin for the same indication, as well as both dapagliflozin and empagliflozin for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

In this study, silicon nanoparticles (NPs) were produced by pulsed laser ablation in a liquid, aiming to investigate the influence of a laser beam profile on the properties of the resultant NPs. Morphology, inner structure, and phase composition of the formed NPs were characterized by means of ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopies, and the correlation of the NP properties with the laser beam profile was studied. Three different beam profiles were selected, namely, a Bessel beam produced using an axicon, an annular profile formed using a combination of an axicon and a converging lens, and a Gaussian beam focused on the surface of a Si target using the same converging lens.

In allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), important clinical decisions depend upon assessment of chimerism, including immunosuppressant dosing and donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI), which in turn can have major impacts on disease control, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), immunity and ultimately patient survival. There is a complex range of clinical and laboratory procedural considerations including methodology of testing, types of cell subset selection, frequency of testing, urgency of turnaround times (TATs), interplay with measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring and duration of testing post-transplant. Background And Purpose: To date, no consensus guidelines have been published that systematically guide delineation of primary and nodal Clinical Target Volumes (CTVs) in patients who require post-operative radiotherapy (PORT) for mucosal Head and Neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). As a result, significant individual, institutional and national variation exists in the way that CTVs are delineated in the post-operative setting, leading to considerable heterogeneity in radiotherapy treatment.

Multiplex assays of variant effect (MAVEs) provide promising new sources of functional evidence, potentially empowering improved classification of germline genomic variants, particularly rare missense variants, which are commonly assigned as variants of uncertain significance (VUSs). However, paradoxically, quantification of clinically applicable evidence strengths for MAVEs requires construction of "truthsets" comprising missense variants already robustly classified as pathogenic and benign.
