Exploring discrimination and racism in healthcare: a qualitative phenomenology study of Dutch persons with migration backgrounds.

Objective: To explore and characterise the discrimination and racism experienced in healthcare from the perspective of Dutch patients with a migration background.

Design: This was a qualitative phenomenological study incorporating an inductive thematic analysis of the answers provided to a free form online survey. Descriptive and differential analyses were conducted for the closed-ended questions.

Background: In 2013, physical therapy students demonstrated low guideline-adherent recommendations regarding chronic low back pain (CLBP) for spinal pathology, activity, and work.

Objectives: To assess the differences in physical therapy students' attitudes, beliefs, and adherence to guideline recommendations regarding CLBP and knee osteoarthritis between 2013 and 2020.

The naming of prokaryotes is governed by the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP) and partially by the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants (ICN). Such codes must be able to determine names of taxa in a universal and unambiguous manner, thus serving as a common language across different fields and activities. This unity is undermined when a new code of nomenclature emerges that overlaps in scope with an established, time-tested code and uses the same format of names but assigns different nomenclatural status values to the names.

When the security measure meets bordered penality: Release procedures for persons who are not criminally responsible without residence rights in Belgium.

Offenders considered to be persons not criminally responsible (hereafter Persons NCR) in Belgium, are subjected to a security measure. This is executed by means of a forensic care trajectory, often beginning in high-security prison units or forensic psychiatric facilities, and moving through medium and lower security psychiatric facilities, with the intention to ultimately integrate them back into society. Within this group there are 145 persons without residence rights.

Aging, a fundamental physiological process influenced by innumerable biological and genetic pathways, is an important driving factor for several aging-associated disorders like diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. In the modern era, the several mechanisms associated with aging have been deeply studied. Treatment and therapeutics for age-related diseases have also made considerable advances; however, for the effective and long-lasting treatment, nutritional therapy particularly including dietary polyphenols from the natural origin are endorsed.

Research on human reasoning has both popularized and struggled with the idea that intuitive and deliberate thoughts stem from two different systems, raising the question how people switch between them. Inspired by research on cognitive control and conflict monitoring, we argue that detecting the need for further thought relies on an intuitive, context-sensitive process that is learned in itself.

Machine Learning Pipeline for Predicting Bone Marrow Edema Along the Sacroiliac Joints on Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Objective: We aimed to develop and validate a fully automated machine learning (ML) algorithm that predicts bone marrow edema (BME) on a quadrant level in sacroiliac (SI) joint magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: A computer vision workflow automatically locates the SI joints, segments regions of interest (ilium and sacrum), performs objective quadrant extraction, and predicts presence of BME, suggestive of inflammatory lesions, on a quadrant level in semicoronal slices of T1/T2-weighted MRI scans. Ground truth was determined by consensus among human readers.

Advance Care Planning in Belgium.

This paper aims to 1) describe current levels of Advance Care Planning (ACP) development since 2002 in Belgium, 2) report on challenges and opportunities to inspire other countries with similar contextual characteristics and 3) support further development of ACP practice and research in Belgium. To address these aims, we consulted local researchers, 12 domain experts and (grey) literature (regulatory documents, reports, policy documents and practice guidelines) on ACP, palliative care, and related healthcare topics. Since 2002, when the Patient's Right Law was passed in the federal Parliament, Belgium has had a specific medicolegal context for ACP.

Parental criticism affects adolescents' mood and ruminative state: Self-perception appears to influence their mood response.

Feeling and/or being criticized is a known risk factor for various psychiatric disorders in adolescents. However, the link between the experience of social stressors and the development of psychopathological symptoms is not yet fully understood. Identifying which adolescent subgroups are more vulnerable to parental criticism could be of great clinical relevance.
