Objective: To examine the relationship between family functioning and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes following traumatic brain injury (TBI) in service members and veterans (SMVs).

Participants: Participants were 359 United States SMVs classified into three groups: non-injured controls (NIC,  = 62); uncomplicated mild TBI (MTBI;  = 189); and complicated mild, moderate, severe, and penetrating TBI (STBI;  = 108). Participants completed 10 HRQOL measures from the TBI-QOL and Neuro-QOL, and the Family Assessment Device-General Functioning subscale (FAD-GF) 2-or-more years post-injury.

Background: Acute neck pain following a concussion has been identified as a symptom associated with a delay in symptom resolution and persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS), but little is known about the relationship between the presence of acute neck pain and other known risk factors of delayed return to play (RTP) such as sex, sport contact level, and race.

Methods: This study reports the findings of a secondary data analysis of a prospective cohort study sample from the Concussion Assessment, Research, and Education (CARE) Consortium. We examined the possible mediating effects of neck pain severity on known factors of delayed RTP (sex, sport contact level, and race) following a suspected concussion.

Mounting evidence suggests that patient response to intraarticular injection may not predict clinical response to arthroscopy in the setting of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) as once believed. However, the hip preservation community should not take this to mean that diagnostic injections lack value in establishing a diagnosis of FAIS and distinguishing it from extraarticular hip conditions. Intraarticular injection, like other diagnostic tools, is not a stand-alone test intended to definitively determine proper treatment.

Despite significant radiobiological advancements following World War II, only a limited number of medical countermeasures (MCMs) have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) for acute radiation exposure related illnesses. Accordingly, well-characterized and validated animal models, both large and small, are still very much needed to develop safe and effective countermeasures. Animal models that are used for such purposes need to reflect not only the clinical and pathogenic features of those seen in radiation exposed humans, but also comparable radiation dose- and time-dependent relationships.

Background: Women military service members (SMs) are more likely to have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) related to sexual assault, highlighting a need for the development and validation of therapies. A new exposure-based therapy called motion-assisted, multi-modal memory desensitization and reconsolidation (3MDR) uses participant-chosen music and images and an eye movement (EM) task in a virtual environment. Motion-assisted, multi-modal memory desensitization and reconsolidation has shown effectiveness in treating treatment-resistant male veterans; thus, this paper focuses expressly on the utility of 3MDR in female study participants, who were 50% of the full study population.

Objective: Describe an innovative Sports Medicine clinic design implemented in an outpatient Physical Therapy (PT) clinic within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) for both referral and direct access (DA) entry portal pathways, and to investigate the modifying effect of medical system initial entry pathway for musculoskeletal injury (MSI) on time from injury to begin care for outcomes of duration of care, recurrence of MSI care for the same condition out to 2 years from discharge after initial care, and physical profile status at time of initial discharge.

Design: Quasi-experimental prospective longitudinal cohort study of active duty Army Soldiers in a MTF who sought care for an initial MSI over a 2-year period.
