Different dietary compositions alter pubertal onset in Wistar rats.

Nutr Neurosci

June 2025

TREE Lab, Department of Biomedical and Lifesciences, School of Science, Navrachana University, Vadodara, India.

Quinolone molecule has demonstrated very high oral bioavailability and antimicrobial spectrum, which makes it a very strong candidate in the field of potency of drugs. In this study, a novel scaffold 6-amino-1-(4-methoxybenzyl) quinolin-2(1H)-one synthesized through a multistep reaction process. The antimicrobial activities demonstrate that the synthesized compounds 6a, 6b, 6d, 6m, and 6n show effective antimicrobial activities against bacterial (Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus) and fungal strain (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).

Puberty is a crucial stage in vertebrates, controlled by complex neuroendocrine mechanisms, yet its precise pathways remain unclear. Kisspeptin and melatonin are central to this regulation, acting as opposing forces: kisspeptin activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, while melatonin suppresses it. Serotonin also influences GnRH secretion.

The supramolecular architectures were designed from lemon-derived carbon dots (LCDs) and curcuminoids. Curcuminoids were used to link the carbon dots to create a supramolecular architecture via an ester linkage. The optical characteristics of curcuminoid-linked lemon carbon dots (CL-LCDs) demonstrated that CL-LCDs-1 can be used for bioimaging applications among all of the LCD derivatives.

Agrochemicals (AGs) are known for their ability to have a negative impact on the health of non-target species, despite the fact that they are meant to protect agricultural plants from harmful pests. Catla catla (Hamilton, 1822) gill cells (ICG) were exposed to four AGs: insecticide (Imidacloprid (IMI)), fungicide (Curzate (CZ)), herbicide (pyrazosulfuron ethyl (PE)), and fertilizer micronutrients (MN) with sublethal concentrations 1/20th, 1/10th, and 1/5th of IC, described here as low dose (LD), medium dose (MD), and high dose (HD), respectively. A significant dose-dependent increase in the nuclear abnormalities such as micronuclei formation, bi-nucleated, and lobbed nucleated cells was observed in ICG cells treated with AGs.

Thermal and pressure response of KHg(CN)(SCN).

Phys Chem Chem Phys

March 2025

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, The M.S. University of Baroda, Vadodara-390002, Gujarat, India.

When aqueous solutions of KSCN and Hg(CN) were mixed, we observed the formation of long, needle-shaped single crystals with an unexpected structure and a formula of KHg(CN)(SCN). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that the CN ligands remain confined to the two apical positions of Hg(II) without forming an extended network. Instead, the sulphur atoms create a layered structure by forming four S-Hg bonds (3.

The use of synthetic insecticides has been crucial in the management of insect pests however the extensive use of insecticides can result in the development of resistance. Callosobruchus chinensis is a highly destructive pest of stored grains, it's a major feeder and infests a range of stored grains that are vital to both global food security and human nutrition. We extensively investigated gene expression changes of adults in response to deltamethrin to decipher the mechanism behind the insecticide resistance.

Environmental risk assessment of heavy metals and microplastics in marine biota along Gujarat coastline, India.

Mar Pollut Bull

February 2025

TREE Lab, Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, School of Science, Navrachana University, Vadodara, India. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the impact of heavy metals and microplastics on marine life by analyzing water and tissue samples from macroalgae, prawns, and crabs along the Gujarat coast.
  • - High levels of chromium, nickel, and copper were found in specific locations and organisms, with mercury and nickel showing significant accumulation patterns.
  • - There was a notable presence of various microplastic types (like threads and fragments) in the samples, indicating pollution levels surpassing safe limits across different marine food chains, necessitating urgent environmental policy changes.

Cancer remains a significant cause of mortality in the world, with increasing prevalence worldwide. There are numerous treatments ranging from surgery to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but since cancer is a heterogeneous disease, only few patients possibly respond to treatments. However, it opens a huge space for the advent of targeted therapies such as hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and target-specific drugs.

The current research investigates individual and combined toxicity effects of nickel (Ni) and imidacloprid (IMI) on earthworm species Eisenia fetida fetida. Employing standardized toxicity parameters, we assessed the impact of environmentally relevant concentrations (ERC) of Ni, IMI, and their mixtures on key biomarkers and reproductive fitness of earthworms. Our findings reveal concentration-dependent responses with discernible adverse effects on physiological parameters.

This study unravels the intricate interplay between photoperiod, melatonin, and kisspeptin to orchestrate the pubertal onset of Common carp. Female fingerlings exposed to long days (LD) exhibited a hormonal crescendo, with upregulated hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis genes (kiss1, kiss1r, kiss2, gnrh2, gnrh3) and their downstream targets (lhr, fshr, ar1, esr1). However, the expression of the melatonin receptor (mtnr1a) diminished in LD, suggesting a potential inhibitory role.

Cationic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) capitalizes on increased contrast agent affinity to the charged proteoglycans in articular cartilage matrix to provide quantitative assessment of proteoglycan content with enhanced images. While high resolution microCT has demonstrated success, we investigate cationic CECT use in longitudinal in vivo imaging at clinical resolution. We hypothesize that repeated administration of CA4+ will have no adverse side effects or complications, and that sequential in vivo imaging assessments will distinguish articular cartilage repair tissue from early degenerative and healthy cartilage in critically sized chondral defects.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as pivotal regulators of gene expression, playing essential roles in diverse cellular processes, including the development and progression of cancer. Among the numerous proteins influenced by miRNAs, the MARCKS/MARCKSL1 protein, a key regulator of cellular cytoskeletal dynamics and membrane-cytosol communication, has garnered significant attention due to its multifaceted involvement in various cancer-related processes, including cell migration, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance. Motivated by the encouraging early clinical success of peptides targeting MARCKS in several pathological conditions, this review article delves into the intricate interplay between miRNAs and the MARCKS protein in cancer.

Introduction: MARCKS protein, a protein kinase C (PKC) substrate, is known to be at the intersection of several intracellular signaling pathways and plays a pivotal role in cellular physiology. Unlike PKC inhibitors, MARCKS-targeting drug (BIO-11006) has shown early success in clinical trials involving lung diseases. Recent research investigations have identified two MARCKS-targeting peptides which possess multifaceted implications against asthma, cancer, inflammation, and lung diseases.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is associated with obesity and declining β-cells. L-glutamine has been implicated in the amelioration of T2D by virtue of its incretin secretagogue property while, there are mixed reports on pitavastatin's adiponectin potentiating ability. We aimed to investigate the effect of pitavastatin (P), L-glutamine (LG), and combination (P + LG) on glycemic control and β-cell regeneration in a high-fat diet (HFD) + streptozotocin (STZ)-induced T2D mouse model.
