Background: Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been shown to be associated with poor mental health in affected zones. However, no study has yet explored its impact on adolescents' mental health.
Aims: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and risk factors associated with depression and anxiety symptoms among adolescents in EVD-affected areas in the Equateur Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purpose: The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is the main event that favors cell migration and metastasis in breast cancer. Previously, we demonstrated that 1 nM estradiol (E) promotes EMT, induced by c-Src kinase, causing changes in the localization of proteins that compose the tight junction (TJ) and adherens junction (AJ).
Methods: The present work highlights the central role of c-Src in the initiation of metastasis, induced by E, through increasing the ability of MCF-7 and T47-D cells, which express estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), to migrate and invade before they become metastatic.

Background: Renal transplant is the standard of care for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Robotic-assisted kidney transplant (RAKT) has emerged as a safe minimally invasive approach with a lower complication rate than open kidney transplant (OKT). Concerns regarding ischemia times and graft function are still a matter of debate.

The objective outcomes of masseteric nerve transfer in the setting of parotid malignancy are unclear. To measure objective facial reanimation outcomes of masseteric nerve transfer in patients with parotid malignancy who underwent parotidectomy with facial nerve resection. Retrospective review of patients who underwent masseteric nerve transfer for facial paralysis secondary to parotid malignancy was carried out at a tertiary referral hospital from August 2017 to November 2021.

Introduction: Although higher risks of infectious diseases among individuals with diabetes have long been recognized, the magnitude of these risks is poorly described, particularly in lower income settings. This study sought to assess the risk of death from infection associated with diabetes in Mexico.
Research Design And Methods: Between 1998 and 2004, a total of 159 755 adults ≥35 years were recruited from Mexico City and followed up until January 2021 for cause-specific mortality.

Background: The Diet Intervention Examining The Factors Interacting with Treatment Success (DIETFITS) trial demonstrated that meaningful weight loss can be achieved with either a "healthy low-carbohydrate diet" (LCD) or "healthy low-fat diet" (LFD). However, because both diets substantially decreased glycemic load (GL), the dietary factors mediating weight loss remain unclear.
Objectives: We aimed to explore the contribution of macronutrients and GL to weight loss in DIETFITS and examine a hypothesized relationship between GL and insulin secretion.

Background: Plant domestication is a remarkable example of rapid phenotypic transformation of polygenic traits, such as organ size. Evidence from a handful of study cases suggests this transformation is due to gene regulatory changes that result in non-additive phenotypes. Employing data from published genetic crosses, we estimated the role of non-additive gene action in the modulation of transcriptional landscapes in three domesticated plants: maize, sunflower, and chili pepper.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTrigeminal trophic syndrome (TTS) is an unusual complication that occurs secondary to trigeminal nerve injury. The insult to the nerve can lead to anesthesia, hypoesthesia, and paresthesias producing sensations such as burning or itching. The combination of both leads to repeated self-inflicted skin trauma in an attempt to alleviate these sensations, eventually leading to ulceration of the skin.

As AI models continue to advance into many real-life applications, their ability to maintain reliable quality over time becomes increasingly important. The principal challenge in this task stems from the very nature of current machine learning models, dependent on the data as it was at the time of training. In this study, we present the first analysis of AI "aging": the complex, multifaceted phenomenon of AI model quality degradation as more time passes since the last model training cycle.

The world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to an unprecedented change in the lifestyle routines of millions. Beyond the general physical health, financial, and social repercussions of the pandemic, the adopted mitigation measures also present significant challenges in the population's mental health and health programs. It is complex for public organizations to measure the population's mental health in order to incorporate it into their own decision-making process.

Many living organisms have DNA in their cells that is responsible for their biological features. DNA is an organic molecule of two complementary strands of four different nucleotides wound up in a double helix. These nucleotides are adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), and cytosine (C).

Blood oximetry provides a fundamental approach to blood gases for inpatients. Arterial blood gases (ABG) have been considered the gold standard for blood oximetry assessment. Venous blood gas (VBG) evaluation is frequently available and provides a source of a more comfortable method for the assessment of blood oximetry in pediatric patients.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the main causes of mortality. Recent studies suggest that cancer stem cells (CSCs) can survive after chemotherapy and promote tumor invasiveness and aggression. According to a higher hierarchy complexity of CSC, different protocols for isolation, expansion, and characterization have been used; however, there are no available resistance biomarkers that allow predicting the clinical response of treatment 5‑fluorouracil (5FU) and oxaliplatin.

The Maintain Your Brain (MYB) trial is one of the largest internet-delivered multidomain randomised controlled trial designed to target modifiable risk factors for dementia. It comprises four intervention modules: physical activity, nutrition, mental health and cognitive training. This paper explains the MYB Nutrition Module, which is a fully online intervention promoting the adoption of the 'traditional' Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) pattern for those participants reporting dietary intake that does not indicate adherence to a Mediterranean-type cuisine or those who have chronic diseases/risk factors for dementia known to benefit from this type of diet.

Here, we present a physiologically relevant model of the human pulmonary alveoli. This alveolar lung-on-a-chip platform is composed of a three-dimensional porous hydrogel made of gelatin methacryloyl with an inverse opal structure, bonded to a compartmentalized polydimethylsiloxane chip. The inverse opal hydrogel structure features well-defined, interconnected pores with high similarity to human alveolar sacs.

Estrogens have been implicated in the etiology of breast cancer for a long time. It has been stated that long-term exposure to estrogens is associated with a higher incidence of breast cancer, since estradiol (E) stimulates breast cell growth; however, its effect on DNA damage/repair is only starting to be investigated. Recent studies have documented that estrogens are able to modify the DNA damage response (DDR) and DNA repair mechanisms.

Companies are increasingly aware of their role with regard to social responsibility in its three pillars: economic, social and environmental, with their different stakeholders. Facing the dilemma of choosing the model of social responsibility they should adopt, taking care of their organizational culture and their employees, with a global vision that the business world requires. However, it is not an easy task for small and medium enterprises, mainly because of their economic shortcomings in human resources and knowledge of how to be a socially responsible company.

Accomplishing slow translocation speed with high sensitivity has been the most critical mission for solid-state nanopore (SSN) device to electrically detect nucleobases in ssDNA. In this study, a method to detect nucleobases of ssDNA using a 2D SSN is introduced by considerably reducing the translocation speed and effectively increasing its sensitivity. The ultra-thin titanium dioxide coated hexagonal boron nitride nanopore was fabricated, along with an ionic-liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate/2.
